How does one determine how much sleep is needed

We all know that we need to sleep and that we need enough sleep. If we don't get enough sleep we are not functioning at our optimal state. I know that I should go to bed earlier than I do but never do. I hate going to bed. I must be a night owl. What about you? Are you getting the sleep that you need? How does one determine the amount of sleep they need?

I do not think that I have enough sleep. I wake up often during the night, interrupted sleep is not good sleep. This kitten is lovely.

The kitten is taking a catnap! I also wake up several times to use the bathroom. It could be why I have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning. I'm certainly not a morning person!

If you are not tired when you get up than you had enough sleep.

The funny thing about me is that I have to force myself to go to bed at night and force myself to get up in the morning! How about you?

You know you have had enough sleep when you go to bed when you are tired and can sleep in until you wake spontaneously. Most of us do not have that luxury.

I don't get as much as I need, that's life. I know I've slept enough when I wake up rested, it happens once in a while. As a student I had a friend who always woke up at the same time without an alarm. I'd love to be able to do that.

I also need more  sleep. It could be that I go to bed too late, usually around midnight. So when do you go to bed and what time do you usually wake up?

@kanuck1 I'd say 11pm to 6am is a good sleep for me but usually it goes later until I manage to get to bed. I am lucky as I can sleep in seconds when the time comes

So what happens after you go to sleep? Do you sleep many hours or just a few?

Expectrs will give you a range to aim for. They might also give tips for a good night's sleep. However, you have to do what works for you. For example, I should sleep eight to ten hours a night for my age group. However, I find that I can do just as good with five to six. I too am a night owl, and I do quite well. I go to bed when I feel tired enough, Wake up when I'm ready.

I think our bodies have an inner clock that times our sleep. If one night I don't sleep well the next day my body tells me to take a nap,

Been a Night Owl all my life. Even when I had to be at work at 7:30, I was up till midnight or later...In my party days I was out to 3am and at work by 7:30. But now in my retired days, I only get up before 9am if I have an 11am appt. And I am lucky if I get to sleep by 3am. I get to watching videos..the shorts on youtube, or reels on FB. They are addictive. LOL Even if I only get 4 to5 hours of sleep, I am up late the next night. But...sooner or later I have one of those days where I sleep till 10 or 11am...guess you could call it Binge Sleeping. LOL
