Saturday and I'm Home Alone

Happy Saturday Everyone! it's cloudy here this morning with showers expected. My two daughters went out shopping so it's just me and the pup for awhile. What better way to spend my time than chatting here with my friends. This weekend our community is having a yard sale. I have plenty of things I probably could have tried to sell but I didn't have the energy to rush around at the last minute looking for stuff. I had totally forgotten about it anyway. Doesn't look like many of my neighbors are participating either. That's my day so far. How's your day going?

I’m just preparing for the possible tornadoes tonight. I should go around and put together things to donate to the church garage sale. I have some brand new unopened things I think will sell well, so hopefully it helps the fundraiser. It’s too bad you couldn’t make some money, but it’s an ordeal if you find yourself running out of time.

@Marilynda1225 We spent about 15 minutes in the cellar tonight at my dad’s. The warnings were constant. It did a lot of damage a few miles away, but spared us. Unfortunately, some other nearby cities got it really bad.

@MarieCoyle 20 tornadoes so far. It’s a scary night.

Stay safe Amber and I hope that you don't get tornadoes there tonight. Donating to your church is a worthwhile cause. I'm sure whatever you donate will be appreciated by people shopping at the fundraiser.

Alone for a short time would be enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, but just a little while...yep. I like looking around at yard sales, it's fun. And once in a while, a person can find a bargain. My day? When my son had to take a nap today, Mom crashed for awhile. It felt SO SO good!!

I took a nice nap too! I enjoy time alone but I don't think I'd want to live alone. I would get lonely I think. But, short periods of time are nice and I don't have to worry about having the tv too loud or listening to music too loud. I haven't been to a yard sale in awhile but I agree that they're fun and you can find a bargain.

@Marilynda1225 Where I used to live, people would often have the old style county auctions. Basically, the auctioneer would bring in helpers and all home goods would often be carried outside and placed—furniture here and there, big flatbed wooden trailers would hold all kitchen, dishes, everything including linens, often quilts, blankets, antique items, books. Basically from soup to nuts. Not clothing. The auctioneer would auction off all of it. I used to get such great bargains! But now, most auctions are online Half the fun was getting to go see everything and watch how much people would bid. I miss those country auctions, but I don’t miss living there.

@MarieCoyle those country auctions do sound like fun and certainly pretty much anything you might be looking for. Online really has become a popular place to look for things especially Facebook where we have a town group where people list things for either a nominal fee or free.

We have a very tropical feeling day here today. We had morning showers, and it is humid and mild. I have changed my Saturday shopping routine, so that I do a pretty big haul, to last us for 2 weeks every other week, and then the week in between I just need to pick up fresh produce. Today was the big haul day, I always feel pressure not to forget anything we will need........and forgetting is something that I excel at it seems. And neither one of us is feeling great. My voice is very hoarse and he has stuffed ears and cannot hear me. Sounds like the perfect alibi, but that is what the doctor told us.

@Marilynda1225 I usually can find milk with a date far enough to last me for over 2 weeks. Yesterday it was even on sale. The bread keeps fine in the refrigerator, as does the cheese and other dairy products. It is the fresh produce that I will go out for next weekend. Eventually I would like to do a big haul only once a month and the fresh produce in between. My throat feels better today although I have laryngitis, my hubby's ear is still plugged. You would be in stitches laughing if you could see us trying to communicate here today, me without a voice and him with having trouble hearing-legitimate trouble.

I'm sorry that both you and your husband aren't feeling well. Hopefully you'll both be feeling better quickly. I also try to do a big shopping to last two weeks and do a fill in with milk, bread and produce in between. The big shopping day takes up a bit of time especially when we buy in bulk and have to break it all down into smaller portions and then freeze them.

@Juliaacv it probably is hysterical with you two trying to communicate. Have you resorted to sign language??

The only yard sale I have ever been to was my own when we sold one house and bought another.

We do a community yard/garage sale here twice a year. In the beginning almost everyone participated and now it seems like fewer and fewer people do it.

@DianneN Hope you can sell your lamps. I'm sure that silver tray was really nice and someone was very happy to get it.

@Marilynda1225 Perhaps everyone gave everything away or don’t need a thing anymore. lol Hubs just left the house to get information from a consignment shop. We replaced several lamps here and have two I don’t want here or in CT. Our condo does a swap I think once a year. We never attend. I’m sure I wouldn’t want anything. Hubs did put a silver plated tray on a table in our lobby, and it was gone in 15 minutes.

Yard/garage sales are a LOT of work. We gave up on them years ago and just donate our stuff now. My day was very long and lonely. I can't wait until my husband comes home. Have a good day.

Yard/garage sales are lots of work (you got that right). It's really not worth the effort anymore to try to make a few dollars especially when buyers are looking to pay next to nothing. I'd rather donate like you said. I can imagine how lonely it must be for you Linda. You've been alone for so long now that as each day passes and your hubby gets stronger I can imagine how anxious you are for him to come home.

It's quiet here. I've already done some weeding in the garden and plan to do some more later today. I also need to run to town for a few things at the store.

I love yard sales. I haven't been to one in years. We used to go to them all the time on Saturdays. I also had an estate sale after my mother passed away. That was a lot of work.

Yard sales are fun and it's great if you can get a bargain. I can imagine an estate sale would be a lot of work. I remember when my mom couldn't live alone anymore and we had to sell her house and basically get rid of 99% of everything in it.

I gave up trying to sell what I do not need. Time by time I prepare several boxes of what I do not need and I call the Charity, so they come to collect.

@Marilynda1225 - It becomes a stress also to have to deal with what we want to sell. I am fine giving to the charity.

I do the same thing Anna. Now I always have a box ready for stuff that I don't need and when it's full I call and they come to pick it up. So much easier than trying to make a tiny bit of money selling it.

I would have thought it was a little early in the season for our yard/garage sale and maybe the fact that the weather wasn't the best deterred people from participating.

We do it twice a year and it must be successful if they keep doing it. I only did it once a few years ago but it wasn't worth the hassle of getting up early, setting everything up and people wanting everything for very little money.

I don't blame you for not getting all round up about selling your stuff I don't either, I just take it to the good will & let them sort it all out to sell, I have other stuff to get done.

It's a shame about the yard sale, but sometimes a relaxed weekend without rushing around can be just what we need. Hopefully, you'll still find some enjoyment in the day, even without participating in the sale. As for my day, it's going well, thank you! Taking it easy and enjoying some downtime. Thanks for asking!
