Do Cats See Ghosts?

Our cats sometimes stare at the ceiling. They might stare and run like they are following something. I look at the same spot and see nothing. The cats at my son's house try to climb one wall near the door to the porch. It is a cement wall and they don't get far. I don't understand what is so fascinating about that spot on the wall. Do your cats act like that? Do they see things that are not there?

A few hours after my mother-in-law passed, our cat, Chilly stared at one of our bedroom windows for no apparent reason. When George got up later that morning, I told him. We think we saw his mom, my mother-in-law, saying goodbye.

I think it is possible. We see things differently than cats do. They seem to know something or someone is there.

@akalinus I agree. I mean one day, Chilly hissed at my t.v. and it wasn't even on.

@kaylachan Maybe Chilly did not like the program that aired but you could not see it. That is amazing, really.

@akalinus I have read that cats and dogs can see things we can't.I have seen staring at any dark places as if there is something or someone.Gods also bark at dark places at night.Animals can see things invisible to us.

@Shivram59 I never heard the word churails before. I did not know that spirits were male or female. Why do you think some people see them but not others? You could write a discussion about them.

I have been taking pictures of the spots that the cats looked at. Now, I have many silly pictures of doors, windows, walls, and ceilings and have not seen anything unusual in any of them.

@akalinus But they must have seen. Here in our town there is a old banyan tree near a small village. The villagers have told me the village dogs are often seen there barking madly at something invisible to the villagers. Some old persons of the village claim to have seen "churails"under the tree.Churails are female ghosts. You can know much more about churails from the internet.

@kareng I had a dog that would growl at night sometimes. I could sense something electric in the air but thought it was my imagination until she started to growl. It is a totally eerie feeling and different from the crazy cats.

Kitty acts like that at about 3 AM. She chases things that don't exist. Then she returns to her slumber.

They say that 3-5 am is the witching hour. That is why many people often wake up during that time. She is keeping you safe from things that don't exist.

@TheHorse I know the feeling. There are things no one can explain. A cat is a perfect example of that.

@just4him I know the feeling. I need lots of caffeine just to wake up every morning. Then I go here or the online word puzzle to nudge my brain into consciousness. Then, I stare into space until I get an idea.

@akalinus True. But I don't have cats, so I need the TV or at least my brain for working on a book.

@akalinus maybe, but there are some creatures who like to misbehave with humans. Cats just help us see what we can't see.

They are night creatures. Ours sleep a lot during the day so they can run around all night, chasing each other and who knows what? Maybe they help protect us while we sleep.

@May2k8 At least, they let us know that something might be lurking about. Maybe some cats are a bit on the naughty side and like to tease us as well as torment each other.

One reason why w think that cats can see ghosts, is because they spot changes in light that we don't. "Cats can detect flickering, we see nothing so we believe they see ghosts, that is NOT the case.

@LadyDuck I have not seen any ghosts that I can remember. I have had scary feelings and thoughts especially when waking up from a dream. Cats see them so they must exist.

My cat stared at me to get my attention. When I asked him what he wanted, he swung his body around and led me up the stairs to my bedroom. Why? Because there was a leak in the roof which dripped into the attic, into our ceiling, and on to our bed and ruined the mattress. So, no, he didn’t see ghosts He also sensed when his sister had cancer.

My cats do look up at the sky from time to time and take swings at flies inside of the home or near the front door.

They could be daydreaming about the stars or they see something odd. We had a dog once who jumped in the air and caught flies in mid flight.

Haha, yes, cats can be quite mysterious creatures, can't they? Mine definitely have their moments of staring at seemingly nothing or chasing invisible prey. It's like they have their own secret world that we're not privy to! As for trying to climb walls, that's a new one for me! It's fascinating how cats can get fixated on certain spots or behaviors that seem puzzling to us humans. Who knows, maybe they sense something we don't or just find the texture of the wall intriguing. Cats definitely have a knack for keeping us entertained and scratching our heads in wonder. So, to answer your question, yes, my cats have their fair share of odd behaviors and moments of "seeing things" that aren't there. But hey, that's all part of what makes them so lovably quirky, right?

I love quirky animals and people, as long as they are not too quirky. You are right, they do live in their own secret world. And, we love them.

Yes, that is right. I never considered Emotional intelligence. Once, my son and fiancee were yelling at each other. A cat was on the bed and he looked at me like he was asking if things were okay and is he safe. I put him in my lap and petted him until he calmed down. They know!
