Have you ever donated in someone’s name?

Some of you might remember my 35 year old cousin died a few weeks ago. I know people send plants, flowers, and often the family leaves a charity for donations to be made in lieu of flowers. I can’t afford flowers, so if they did not indicate where to donate, I find a charity that is associated with something to do with them, and donate in their name. My cousin played the guitar so I found a charity called Guitars 4 Vets that donate music lessons and guitars to vets with PTSD. I also donated to a music foundation he had a heart for, one where varied musician Leon Russell used to record. I didn’t know who that was, but maybe @FourWalls does. I had to look him up.
Do you guys ever do that? I like the thought that someone will see his name, and know he existed, even if they never think of him again. And this may be silly, but every time a dog of mine passes away, I make a donation to an animal charity in their name. Just to pass on a little of the love they gave.

I don't have that kind of money lying around. Medical bills consume most of it. However, I am not against the concept.

@AmbiePam It maybe a poor choice of words, but some months I don't even have five dollars to spare. Other months I do pretty well.

That is a great idea and a very nice thing to do in a person's remembrance. I have never done that but in our Latvian church way back when my dad passed in 1967 we could choose to have a Sunday service in his remembrance so his name was mentioned in church and mom and I put flowers on the altar,

Yes, I've donated several times in someone else's name. It's not silly to donate in your dog's name. I think it's sweet. Have a good day.

Yes, I have. I once donated to the Gideons in my pastor's name.

Yes, I have. Just this morning I gave to the “help people learn about Leon Russell fund.” (Just kidding!)
I participated in the Betty White 100th birthday challenge, and I’ve donated in memory of friends and loved ones.

I do not always send flowers unless it is someone quite close that survives the deceased.
I tend to make a donation.
I have bought alot of books through the Literary Angels program at the local public library in the city that we used to live near. I always specified what topic to purchase a book in and then when it arrived they put a nice card in the front of the book stating who it was bought in memory for and by whom and when. The family would always be sent a letter regarding this gift in memory of their loved one and then they could go in and see the book before it was loaned out. I had alot of people thank me as this was such a lasting gift, and it was a nice way of giving back to the community.

That was a great idea to donate to the charity Guitars 4 Vets in memory of your cousin. It makes the memory seem more personal.

Beautiful that you do that. I haven't but seems like a great thing to start.
