Indian fashion designers not in sync with climate

This is a hot country. We could be like arid Mexico but for the huge population that has kinda harnessed bore water and built large buildings. But coming to the point. We have fashion designers designing clothes with full sleeves. That is fine in the west. I can understand it to be good to prevent sun burns. But I ask me, what is wrong with the short sleeves, especially when people are using Chunnis or stoles. Yesterday my old househelp and the new househelp were discussing the heat out here. We are witnessing disgustingly hot weather .. in heat wave. There is absolutely no wind and the cement complexes ensure that the heat is radiated and remains for longer. They were saying I can make a fried egg on the street, I can feel the heat through my footwear. The other one said, would you believe even inside the house, when I was cooking I was drenched in my sweat even with the fan on? I must remember to mention what I am thankful for in Valerie's post. I feel sorry for the next generation here. I feel sorry for the voters who will have to stand in long queues. How hot is it at your end? We have touched 43C out here. (almost 110 F). Normally, this is towards the end of the May or first June, and only for three or four days. This time it is over a week, and I dread how things will be by end of May or in the first week of June.

Yesterday, it was 39.5 degrees. Imagine that for a place like Bengaluru where 34 degrees was considered too hot till last year. I prefer to go for well covered loose cotton clothes. My daughters and I have sensitive skin and sun just burns it. So, I will go well covered. I grew up in Delhi. And we were always advised by elders to go fully covered with comfortable cotton clothes. It gives some protection from the heat waves(loo).

Arunima almost all kurtas are designed that way. It is very difficult to find the right kurta with right print. I don't like full sleeves. I kinda sweat too much and the sweat eventually makes the cotton stick to the body. Even as I am sitting in this chair with fan on, and AC across the room, you bet the pant and the top will be wet behind once I get up. LOL Really hate this climate.

@vandana7 Even I sweat a lot. And this year Bengaluru has been horrible.. it's raining right now and I hope that it gets better. I am lucky to get perfect fit readymade kurtas. Size M( certain brands) and L fits me well.

Some regions touched 46C ..so I guess, I still have something to be thankful for. I am unfortunately on top most floor. So roof radiation adds to the problem, as does radiation from the roof of the adjacent building. You too have a good week ahead Linda. :)

India is located in a tropical region, and the temperature is very high all year round, which is also unavoidable.

Yes. When I go out on the road, there is hardly anybody. Usually, the city is bustling with activity. The roads are silent right now.

We are lucky, we have air conditioners. The househelps live in small rooms, and often their roofs are made of tin sheets. They don't even have coolers. They make do with fans that they borrow from us.

It's 43C in my city too. I too hate those long sleeves dresses. I either wear sleeveless or short sleeve dress at home.

I'm so sorry you are in a heat wave. I've never felt heat like that. Your A/C must be working overtime. Winter fashions come out in spring while summer fashions come out in fall. I hope it cools off for you and you won't have such heat for the end of May and June. It's warmer than usual here too, but only in the 70s F. I'm not looking forward to summer with spring being so warm for us. I hope you stay cool and hydrated in the heat.

It is unusually hot here in Jamaica for the month of May, 30 celsius. However the seasonal May/ June rains should cool things down a bit. I can just imagine what summer will be like.
