5/11/24 - Update on My Husband

Got to visit my husband yesterday. Brought him his favorite Dr. Pepper and picked up a hamburger, chicken sandwich and fries from McDonald's for him. He is so thin. He gave me the good news that they started him on steps yesterday. This was one of the missing pieces to his coming home. Now he just needs to be able to get in and out of bed by himself so he will be able to get in and out of his recliner at home. I am still hoping to have him home by the end of May. The Admissions Director at the other facility refuses to return my calls. Looks like hubs will have to stay where he is for the duration. No news yet on the Reconsideration. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Good to hear he is started on steps. You know you can buy those pop up recliners that stand you up. My dad sits in one. He was having trouble getting up and down from the chair. That would be a worthy investment for you..and alot faster and cheaper than getting your outside entrance fixed..although I am certain it needs to be done at some point..Yay for progress

@LindaOHio Well, you will have to see how it goes. Are there any soft chairs he can practice on at the facility?

@MarieCoyle I doubt we will get one since the recliners are fairly new. He must get strong enough to get up and down by himself before he leaves rehab.

Our recliners are fairly new so we won't be getting a lift chair. He will have to get PT until he can get up and down on his own.

That is great news. It will probably be best to leave him where he is for the remainder of his time away from home, they know his ways and have worked so closely with him to get him to this stage.

It wouldn't be worth transporting all his clothes and belongings at this point.

Yay for visiting and for practicing steps. He will do much better at home. I have an online friend who has gotten her frail husband a trapeze bar type device so he can get up and out of bed. Any word from the contractor about the steps and railings?

I'm not having any luck finding another contractor. Some of them just don't show up for their appointments.

I'm glad to hear there's progress with your husband's recovery, but I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with the facility and the Admissions Director. It must be frustrating. I hope everything works out for the best and that your husband can come home soon. You both remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Me too. Now he just needs to get in and out of his recliner without assistance.

Linda, that's encouraging that they've started him on steps. Praying he'll be home soon! I'm sure he enjoyed your visit and the McDonald's treats.

He loves "real food" even if it's fast food. He can't wait to have some Chinese or pizza or a steak!

Write letters or e-mails, or make phone calls to “the bosses.” These people treating you like goose poop have to answer to someone. I pray you have a great homecoming treat in a couple of weeks with him!!!

I think the home office is in Cincinnati; but I couldn't find anything on the Corporate Office in Cleveland. I think I'll call Cinti.

It is great to know that they started him on steps. As he is improving, may be it's better to let him where he is now.

@LindaOHio As I hope that he will not have to stay many more days I think he can stay where he is. Of course if he still has to spend several weeks a better place would surely be better for his moral.

Yes, it's too much trouble to transfer him and all his belongings at this point. It means another $200 ambulance ride too!

Your hubby must have been thrilled seeing you and getting his food from McDonald's. Happy to hear that he seems to be in good spirits and even better news that they started him on the steps. At this point he might be better off just staying there with the hopes he can go home by the end of May.

Have you talked to your lawyer? And maybe the press? That is not acceptable. "The Admissions Director at the other facility refuses to return my calls."

That is good you got to see him and take him those items that he enjoys. That's great to hear about the working on steps. Getting closer. Sorry the person won't call you back from the one place though
