Do you have any big or old trees around you?

Even though I am literally surrounded by trees, I am not sure how many are actually "old." None of them have a huge girth..although the article I just read about them says they don't have to. Where I used to live..which was in a close in suburb to DC..pretty urban in nature..except for certain areas .we had some wooded sections nearby..Right across from my house there was a tree I swear that must have been 400 years old..one of the biggest I have seen in VA. I used to always marvel it was there and grown during the time of George Washington. I might call and nominate that tree for the big tree project. I bet few people know about it.

You can never really know..but the girth is one measure. You know if it was cut down and you counted the rings..there would be hundreds.

We have a really big Oak tree in our yard. There are a lot of trees, but I think this one is the oldest and biggest.

@Tampa_girl7 Yeah, Unless they are really a problem I wouldn't do it though. It is too expensive, besides I don't agree with it. The world needs trees to combat global warming.

The area that we live in has only been recently developed within the last 7-9 years, so the 'oldest' trees in this area are about 9 years old. Our son had 0 trees on his 13 year property that he moved into last year, and now they have 3 trees.

Some of them here are 50 feet tall, although none are super big around. I did contact the big tree people and told them about the one where I used to live.

@snowy22315 There is an oak tree on the family farm, in front of the house that my parents lived in when they retired. That tree is over 100 years old, it is so wide and so strong. There is an old swing on it that has been there for decades.

You have some heritage trees near you. There is a very tall fir tree at the back of my property. I call it Grandfather due to its height- who knows how old he is?

It has to take awhile for the trees here to grow so tall. Unfortunately, about 10-12 years ago they clear cut the mature woods in the back probably to sell the wood. I was quite perturbed about it at the time, but at this point, you really can't tell it was done. Nature rebounds quickly at times.

@sallypup It was a pain in the butt..There were people riding 4 wheelers back there and everything else! Plus that tornado we had here I know partly was so bad because there were virtually no trees back there as a windbreak.

A lot of big old trees are being preserved here in the Philippines. I remember a few of them located at our high school, but they are said to be haunted since they were said to exist even during the World War.

I use to have a huge one right next to my bedroom. It was so huge, and with our storms it made me so nervous to have it so close to me bedroom. Sure enough, one night a storm finally came and the huge roots gave up the ghost. Luckily it fell to the opposite side of me. I was very thankful. On the hand hand, that sucker was huge, and I hate that the storms took it out.

That happened here too. Two of the super large trees came crashing down. One directly on the roof..One also almost taking out the heat pump. The firemen moved it back on the cement pad.

Yes, I have big and old trees around. Especially we have a lot of banyans here and they grow so big. The weather is suitable for these trees and some of them can be over a hundred years.

I have a really big walnut tree in my yard that must be really old but I have no idea how old it is. When I was Governor Of California, I was surrounded by trees. When I wasn't in Reno, which was most of the time.

When we bought our home 32 years ago there were huge oak trees and a maple. We had several of the oak cut down as they were way to close to the house for our liking. The maple was taken out by an ice storm. We still have one huge oak tree at the end of our driveway.

Big trees can be a hazard but unless it is something critical I would never take them down. The world needs trees now more than ever.

We have tall Royal Palm trees on the property but l have no idea how old they are . They look very sturdy so l doubt that hurricanes over the years could have uprooted them .

I have two trees in my front yard. I think they are at least 30 years old. But they aren't good trees. They have weak branches and one branch fell during a wind/rain storm not long ago. We do have lots of trees in the back, but I don't know how old they are.

@snowy22315 There is an old tree outside of my building where I used to leave my mobility scooter until some thought it was a good idea to destroy it twice and so when I charge it have to sit inside and not leave it alone.

I had a bunch of trees right up to & OVER the trailer & cabin till just after I got out of rehab where a guy came by asking if we wanted them cut down & I told him I've BEEN wanting them down, he said he would take them for the wood I told him go for it I'm read y for them to be GONE FOR GOOD. . . The trees we had went from 4 ft round at the base to 6 ft I'm going to use 1 in front of the trailer a base for a pond to sit on in the front yard once I get started on the garden.
