Another update on another husband

I went to see Vince in hospital this morning. I managed to find the entrance to the car park and found an empty spot but the bays were very tight. Luckily I have a smallish car. I was able to pay with coins so that was good. I don’t have the phone payment quite worked out yet. Vince was sitting in a chair but had a heap of tubes and monitors all over the place. He was quite bright but dozed off a time or two while I was there. In between dozes he chatted a bit. The nurse said he is ‘ticking all the boxes’ so that’s good. He should move out of the ICU unit tomorrow. I’ve just been battling trying to upload the photo but I’ll get my friend to help me with it this evening. I thought I’d emailed it to myself but it hasn’t arrived yet. So you get a photo of a kangaroo instead.

I am glad that you found an empty spot and the coins were accepted to pay. Even here the parking spots are so tight and the cars bigger and bigger... I am glad that you found Vince sitting and you could exchange some words. He will surely look better tomorrow, after the first 24 hours is usually a lot better. We always like to see the photos of roos.

Thanks, Anna. The nurse said the first night is always the worst and that if he sleep well tonight he'll look much better tomorrow. He should be in his own room tomorrow.

@JudyEv I hope he will be in his own room starting tomorrow. I remember that when I visited my Mom the day after her serious surgery I was a bit concerned, but after 24 hours she looked so much better.

@JudyEv how long the hospital would still keep him?

@JudyEv You're very welcome. How long until he comes home? I don't remember how long my husband was in the hospital. That was in 2004.

I'm glad Vince is doing well, hopefully he will be home soon. I didn't know a roos pouch would stretch like that.

I've wondered how that works because on some videos I've seen what seems to me to be a big joey get back into his mom's pouch but those videos don't show everything.

I think that little one would have soon been kicked out! The pouch is nearly dragging on the ground.

@rebelann Once they get to a certain size, they drink by standing in front of the mother and just poking their head in the pouch.

Judy, I'm so sorry I missed your post, I had no idea Vince was having heart surgery! I'll pray he'll continue to improve.

Thanks Vicki. I've tried not to go on about it too much. I'm going in again shortly to see him. He'll be at least another night in ICU but they had him up for a short walk this morning.

I am glad you were able to go see him. I'm sure he is very tired from all that has taken place. I would think they have to accept coins as well as the phone payment, as not everyone in the world has a phone still, plus there are people who cannot manage the intricacies of a payment from the phone. Great picture of a 'roo!

@MarieCoyle There are no other options at the hospital and you have to pay for an hour minimum. One of the other hospitals lets you pay as you leave but this one you have to buy your ticket first and display it on the dash.

They had him up walking this morning - just a very short way but he said he was exhausted when he rang, which is what he has to expect after such extensive surgery. And the meter did accept coins but more and more it seems everyone is expected to have a mobile and know how to use it.

@JudyEv Yes, that is the way to pay for such things, although I prefer to pay for online purchases from my laptop at home, not my phone. Our city has parking meters in many places. They have all gone to using cards rather than coins. It's convenient, but ... kind of a pain for some people who do not have a card, I suppose. I usually avoid the meters, as when I am in the area of pay phones, it's usually around a medical appointment and I am never sure how long I will be. The other paid parking places are parking garages with meters, so you don't pay until you leave. I am sure he is very, very tired. It will take a while for him to regain strength, but we know you will be there to cheer him on! Take good care of yourself, Judy.

And just what is that 'roo doing? Using a sprinkler as a bidet? Glad to read that Vince is doing 'tickety-boo'.

I wonder if kangaroos are a bit like our deer. They tend to pop up when you aren't necessarily expecting to see them. Glad Vince is progressing.Sounds like the operation was a success.

I should think they are very like your deer. They can be a menace on the roads. Yes, Vin is doing well so far, thanks.

I love the picture of the Mama roo with her Joey in her pouch. I am so thankful to hear that Vince is doing so well-ticking all of the boxes as the nurse stated. Funny, I never took him for a ticker, more of a photographer and all around handyman.

How long do they say he will be at the hospital, and recover fairly to be at home? And would you need any assistance at home for some time? Will it be possible to organize that?

He has at least another night in ICU then 7-10 days in hospital plus a couple of months recovery. No driving for 8 weeks, etc. I can manage at home. I might need to get someone to be here if I need to go shopping but, now we're living in the city, I have quite a few people willing to help out if I need help. Thanks.

Glad you found a spot. The parking here is small too. Being a rural area you would think they would make them bigger for the trucks. But they don't. Very glad to hear Vince is doing good and will be moved to a regular room soon
