It isn't as bad as it looks

My husband has been in hospital since Monday and has had major heart surgery. As you can see, at that point, he had a number of tubes attached to his body but some have been removed now.
I’ve been to see him each day and with luck he will be out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) tomorrow and into a private room. He has been for a short walk each day and tomorrow they will get him up to walk every hour. He says that after any activity at all, he feels absolutely exhausted. We were told to expect this but he is finding it a bit hard to accept.
Your prayers and good wishes have been much appreciated. Hopefully I’ll soon be able to show him up and walking.

I'm glad that it's not as bad as it looks, because babe, it looks bad.

I have to say his color is good which is a very positive sign. I am sure he will eventually get his strength back and walking will not be such a chore

@JudyEv What is that thing on his chest that looks like a blanket folded up? Is it an 02 cannister?

@snowy22315 I think it is folded around the pain relief button so he can't lose it.

Short walk every hour ..the thought itself must be stressing him. But it is needed. :( My father has stopped taking walks and he takes them randomly. Earlier he was able to climb steps. Now he cannot, and even his step gap is coming down, it is becoming a shuffle. Men...sigh. How you gonna motivate him? Of course, I will pray. Hugs.

Judy, this picture says a thousand words.
It leaves me fighting back the tears, I cannot imagine how you nor he feels.
I will keep you both in my prayers, and I wish him only good health. Prayers for him for his continued improvement and you for nursing him back to health after he is discharged from the hospital.

Thanks so much, Julia. Some of the tubes have gone now. They advised me against visiting the day of the surgery as it would have been worse with tubes down his throat as well and he wouldn't have known as I was there. We will need to be very patient and satisfied with very small progresses as he recovers.

@JudyEv we've been friends for so many years and I find these friendships to be genuine. Many of us are praying for Vince (and you) even though his recovery will take some time.

@Marilynda1225 It's nice to feel I can come here and share even bad/worrying/uncomfortable things. Certainly for some of us, our history goes back a few years now.

Afterall, this is quite a big surgery. It takes a bit of time to recover. I wish him all the best.

Praying for you both! And do tell him (in case he didn’t pay attention to the doctors telling him) that it is “normal” to be exhausted after minimal effort at first after heart surgery. My dad barely made it walking from the chair they had him in to the bathroom in the room for the first few days. It will get better!!!

Oh no, poor Vince. I didn't know there was anything wrong with him. I really hope he recovers quickly. I will make sure to say a prayer for both of you.

@moffittjc I brought him home today and he is doing well. Still quite a long road to go but he's out of hospital which is great and quite well, but gets exhausted quickly. Thanks so much for your prayers.

I will include your husband in my prayers.
I know it is not easy seeing our loved ones sick. My husband had a bad fall last year. I cannot forget how worried and confused I was at that time—I was confused. I could not get exact details from the doctors because most of them could not speak English fluently. The emergency medical team could not answer my questions. Fortunately, my husband was conscious. I looked for signs of stroke but it didn't seem like it. He stayed at the hospital for three weeks. He was grumpy. I felt down whenever he was crabby. He would get upset at the slightest provocation sometimes, I wanted to cry. It took months for him to get better. I cannot say that he has fully recovered because he still has persistent pain in his hips. The orthopedic told me that it is a pinched nerve,

They are slowly being removed. It's going to take some time.

Thanks. In a way, I don't mind him being there as he is under constant supervision. But it's nearly time he left.
