Tonight my mom cooked fish. The taste of the fish is very weird. We were sure the fish was fresh and alive when a neighbor caught it. It is called trout. The taste is very muddy. I haven't eaten something like this before. The taste is so awful that I can't eat it. I wonder if it's normal or not. I can't explain the taste. It tastes like dirt or mud. But words can't really describe the taste. I have eaten this kind of fish since I was a kid and it never tasted like that. Have you eaten fish with a weird taste? The fish was cooked with potatoes and different vegetables.

I really hope they didn’t lie about it being fresh. Usually, the ones that taste bad are the bottom feeders. In those cases (like catfish) you have to know how to cook them to make them tasty. Although, when cooked right they are delicious. I love trout with mango salsa.

You did the rig ht thing by not eating the fish if it is weird. Maybe that was a bad batch that it does not taste right. Maybe I had some tuna once that was not rig ht so could not eat it but I like you eat tuna all the time so that could be that the one I had was not good so cannot eat something like that. I did not want to get sick from it and I share it with my cat and do not want her to get sick too.

The only fish I know of that has a reputation for a muddy taste is catfish. I have had trout before, and it was very steak-like and very good. I would love to have trout again. It was not muddy and freshly caught by my husband. Even if a fish is freshly caught, it could be a sick fish. If it smelled fresh and no bad odor, it should taste good if cooked properly. Trout is a very popular fish but regulated here for being able to catch, I think.

That does not sound good, I would not eat such a fish, I could be that the fish got too big and filled itself with mud when in the water, Sorry it was not a good meal,

@dya80dya That is a good question on why the fish you ate was awful.

It definitely ISN'T trout, as everyone has said, trout is a very delicious fish that is a pleasure to eat. You have probably eaten a bottom feeder that was accidentally caught and was miss called trout. Or it could be a trout that was feeding on something that it shouldn't have been eating. Sometimes when a fish is very hungry it will feed on what it can find to fill the emptiness in it's stomach. It also could have been a different variety of trout that somehow found its way into your area. You did well by not eating the fish. I used to eat the fish from the lake that we lived on, and I ate Bass, Cat Fish and other varieties of fish and never had any problems with the taste.
Another thought, in the area that I used to fish in, it was known that people would "chum" the areas that they would fish in. The "chumming" was their dropping food sources to bring fish to the area they chose to fish so that they could catch fish much easier and more fish than other fishermen. It was frowned upon by most of the fishermen in the area as a less than sporting way to catch fish for their tables. They would catch much more than their needs and sell the overages for huge profits. Sporting fishermen would find the "Chummers" and make their lives miserable until they would quit the practice.
