Cancel the operation .....the daughter is too selfish !

My Moms 89 year old neighbour is not having a great time of it lately. She is badly in need of an operation on her foot. She has put it off twice before .....the first time I can understand as her husband ( now sadly died ) had just gone into a nursing home. The second time she put it off it was because her daughter " had got a hair appointment and couldn't go with her !" The daughter took her to the hospital on Sunday and the Dr said they could book her in as an urgent and emergency case. She would need someone at home to look after her following the operation ....was there anyone ? Said daughter says " I can't be there as I am out Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays " So the outcome is ....she is not having the operation. She can barely walk and finds it a struggle to drive. I am so cross as this lady is lovely and will do anything for anyone. Her daughter is fit as a fiddle, well able bodied but so selfish. She does not work and only lives at the most a 5 minute drive away. She will inherit the big house in a great area plus all the money .....and yet she won't look after her Mom for a few weeks.

It's sad her daughter won't help her. What about you helping her?

My Mom and I do as much as we can. My Mom is 86 and not in the best of health herself. I work and do not drive and do not live as close as her daughter.

The lady should sell her house and hire someone to help her.

I agree. But at 89, it might all be a bit too much for her.

@Traceyjayne If she sold her house she can rent one. And she can´t force her family to help her but she can hire someone to do so. I hire a lady once a week to clean my house as I can´t do it any longer. My daughters have theur problems and their life. Nobody can expect to have family care for us for free.

That sounds A LOT like my sister . She made certain declarations while our dad was in the hospital - very selfish ones - boy her true colors really came to light during that time. My dad never made it home - so she will forever have to live with her foot in her mouth. I feel sad for your mom's elderly neighbor.

That's so sad. What a selfish daughter. Can the mother not use some of her money to hire help till she gets over the operation? I could understand a little if the daughter was working and strappd for money but it's very sad otherwise.

@Traceyjayne In that case, it's very sad but there probably isn't much to be done.

the mother is a very proud lady and does not want help/carers to have to come in .....she also does not want to admit to people just what her daughter is really like.

In spite of how she feels about it, hiring help might be her only choice. People already know what her daughter is like.
