A plethora of pills

We’re into June already. It won’t be long and we’ll be having the shortest day again. Of course, that’s only for the southern hemisphere. The photo shows the drugs that Vince has been sent home with. Some of these will stop in a week or two. They are listed on paper and we go through the list together very carefully to make sure we get them right. I’ve drawn up another list on paper with tick boxes listing pill-taking, exercises, breathing tube, etc so we don’t forget anything. He was up twice through the night with cramp in his shoulder. We heat a heat pack/rice bag in the microwave and that eases it. This morning he barely remembers the cramps so that’s good. Overall, he had a good night’s sleep.

Wow, that looks like enough medicine for you to open your own pharmacy with! I’m so happy he’s home! Keep him in line now.

June is here. Time flies so fast. I hope that there will no more additional pills to buy or take.

Thanks. He will only be on some of these for perhaps a week or two. It will be good when some are no longer needed.

I'm glad that he slept alright. George's been dozing so much during the day, it's a wonder he sleeps at night. Last night I put him to bed around 2 A.M. and he got up an hour later and wondered into the bathroom. Still woke up wet, but I can't win them all.

@JudyEv He's trying at least. And, it's a far cry from when he came home. After I stopped giving him the one pill, a lot inproved for him. He reconizes he's doing a lot better. Not sure what he's more excited about, the possibility of driving or getting his peg tube out. The later might take longer than he wants.

Glad he doesn't remember the cramps and was able to rest. And I am glad he won't be on all those pills, that is quite a lot.

I'm glad he had a good night's rest, and now I must ask--did you? I surely do hope so. I organized all of my son's meds and it's easier for him to take them when he is supposed to. He wanted to keep them all in his bathroom on a shelf...that just didn't work for him. Good job.

Ours are in a box on the kitchen bench. If we have visitors, I can whisk the box away out of sight. I've been having a nap each afternoon while he does. He is quite easy to look after really. It's really just a matter of him healing and getting stronger.

@JudyEv That’s such a great idea, to nap when he does. I am sure it helps that he is an easy patient.

I'm glad there is two of us to keep track. If it were just one and they were a bit addled, confused, they'd never cope.

Those checklists are a great idea to keep everything on track. I'm glad the heat pack helps with his cramps and that he managed to get a good night's sleep despite the interruptions. Taking care of someone can be challenging, but it's clear you're doing a fantastic job. I hope Vince continues to recover smoothly and comfortably.

Thanks for the kind words. The cramps are a worry. We haven't found anything to help except for the heat pack. I might research it further and see what I can come up with.

The 21st will be our longest day and I hope also to see more warm and sunny days than we had in May. It is such a pain when you have to take so many medications, you have to check every hour if you need to take something.

Apart from a four-hourly painkiller, he just has a heap morning and night so it's not too hard to keep track of.

Yeah...that does seem a lot of pills...and we cannot afford to forget any or give wrong one in wrong time....good old days, we had Drs who used to mix some liquids and make us drink that. Nowadays, its confusion of tablets. :( But good news is your husband is improving. Cramps will come down a few days down the lane, I suppose.

@JudyEv Normally, dehydration does. It is summer here, so it must be winter at your end. He possibly consumes less water or juices.

It's certainly a confusion of tablets. He has been getting these cramps on and off for a long time. We can't work out what causes them.

We are still having a lot of trouble stopping the cramps. A heat pack seems to work the best. We were told recovery would be slow so we just have to be patient.

He did come home with alot of medication but thankfully they will not be needed long term. I am sure that you will find a system that will work for you. When you stop to think about it, medical technology that we enjoy today really is miraculous.

He had a rough day with cramping. I'm making him eat cashews as they are a good source of magnesium and we've bought a spray-on analgesic that has magnesium in it. Hopefully, we'll find better ways of managing the cramps.
