Are you a garage/yard sale person?

I handed off a lot of my things to my dad to give to his church’s youth group for their garage sale to raise money on Saturday. He said so far I gave away the nicest things he’s seen up there. I don’t have a lot of money, but I tell you, I am good at finding quality deals. I think I got it from my dad. Plus, I take good care of my things. I felt really good about giving it all away because I knew it was going to a good cause (they’re going on a mission trip). My parents used to love hitting garage sales in the summer. I’d love to have my own, but I don’t think I had quite enough to justify my very own with just my things. Usually, I just donate it all to Goodwill. It’s fun to look for good deals. You find brand new things all the time. Any of you garage sale people?

I went through a yard/garage sale phase when our son was young. I even had a couple of them myself because it was before the internet where you could easily sell children's items and yet they still had alot of life left in them. I think that my best purchase was a small exercise trampoline which was the perfect size for my 4-year old. And for only 5 bucks.

@AmbiePam His birthday was the first party of the school year, as it is in September, and the kids all had alot of fun taking turns jumping on the trampoline. It was perfect for a single child.

I used to love to go to yard sales years ago with my aunt Fannie, then we'd get a sausage biscuit somewhere. I love to shop at Good Will...I might look through a hundred things, but then once in a while find a treasure. I usually donate to Salvation Army though since they help a lot of people with their profits. I hope the kids raise lots of money for their mission trip. Is your dad's anniversary message this coming Sunday? I pray lots of hearts will be changed.

Not really, but then again I don't typically see any on my adventures. Maybe we'll stumble across some good finds when George's driving again and we've got the freedom to go where we please.

Funny about garage sales I have only been to a few and enjoyed it, When I lived in Latvia people they are not permitted to hold garage sales and that was a shame because people there are financially strapped and many would appreciate getting something good for less that others don't need,

I wonder why it wasn’t permitted. That’s a shame.

I am but I haven't been to one for ages. Our village held a combined one but we weren't able to attend at the time. You can pick up some great bargains.

Yeah, when I can find a good one I am. Multi Family or community sales are the best. If it is a single sale, I have a hard time finding things that interest me

I am an avid thrift shopper, but I haven't hit the garage sale circuit much (unless we happen to walk by one). In the past 3 years I probably enough to have a garage sale, but it was just faster to donate and get it out the way - out of sight, out of mind. We did go to a huge swap meet today - typically they are vendors with new stuff out here, but this one was more like a gigantic marketplace for garage sale type stuff.

It sounds like a good time! I found out a lady from the Catholic Charities organization came and bought the brand new plates and silverware I had donated (never even been opened). Apparently, they fully furnish the temporary homes battered women occupy, and when they move out they get to take the furnishings. Someone had just moved out, and they were looking to furnish the home again. It made me feel good to know someone is getting quality items in their new home. I mean, I had nothing to do with it personally, but I like knowing a worn down person is being treated to nice things.

@AmbiePam That is so nice - what a wonderful charity you donated to! Your plates and silverware went to a home where I'm sure it was greatly appreciated .

I love garage and boot sales! But there aren't many going on where I am these days so I go Charity or thrift shop shopping instead. It is amazing what you can find from things people gave up on already.

My relatives and myself like to go to garage sales for the bargain prices as well as having some rare products.

I used to go to a lot of them. Now, just occasionally. We have a local thrift store that is so, so nice and clean...it is run by all the local churches combined. Everything is washed and clean, the prices are way cheaper even than a yard sale. I enjoy shopping there, so that's where I usually go instead of yard sales right now. But if any of the neighbors have one, I try to stop by theirs.

I think I'm more of a flea market/thrift store person, but I have hit up a garage sale or two in my day.

I gone to a few yard/garage sales in my day. I do enjoy looking at what "treasures" people part with. I've also had a few yard sales over the years. Now I use Craigs List which is a lot less work. No setting up and putting away of items. Goodwill is a smart away to discard of things without all the hassle.
