How do you beat the heat?

When I was a kid my sister and I simply played in the sprinkler. Once, we had a Slip N Slide (WHO thought of that break your neck “device”?) These days, kids have a little more to work with. Last year my sister and BIL just sprayed water on the inflatable slide, and told my nieces and nephew to have fun. This year, they added an inflatable pool. When you live in Oklahoma (as well as other sweltering states), you need it. By the way, Annelyn is standing in the pool with the two children’s water sprayers my dad got them. We have to keep an eye on that girl. To beat the heat, obviously, I try to stay inside. If I have to be out, I have a neck fan, or a Culcan, which is a can that retains the cold for about three hours after having been in the freezer (hey, it was free). What do you do?

Avoid being outside as much as possible. I do not like summer, heat or humidity at all.

I hibernate in the a/c inside also. I love the set up that your nephew and nieces have. It looks like there is alot of space for each of them to play independently or together if they wish. When I was a child, my mother would take turns driving me and my best friend to the town near us to go to the public swimming pool. We loved going there for the afternoon.

@AmbiePam One year we went so often that my bathing suit, which was orange, faded from the chlorine to more like flesh colour. My mother wouldn't let me wear it when it got like that.

They seem to have a lot of fun. I go out only in the early hours of the day to beat the heat. I often take more than one shower a day.

Yes, I get up early to do everything that needs to be done in this heat. It’s too much.

Mostly here in tropical Florida I stay in my workroom with AC and fan blowing, However, I will be brave enough at some point to take my cane and walk to the beach and throw myself into the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, I won't do it often but I will see how the first time works out, Maybe this weekend then there should be enough people to pull me back out

Here the temperature is the same. Inside or outside we have 30 degrees Celsius. I don't like extreme heat or cold. They make me feel sick. But I ordered today an air conditioner because It will be hotter.

I don't do very well in extreme heat at all, so during the hottest part of the day, I try hard to be inside. Hot summer days are just not my friend. Stay cool and safe, Amber!

@AmbiePam I waited until after 6 PM to go out and do some work in the garden, and it was still too hot, I think. I didn't stay out long and I was wiped out when I came inside. Live and learn...live and learn!

I usually try not to go out if I can help it, or if I do in the evening is best. I can't take that blazing sun. We haven't gotten to the real hot stuff yet and tommorrow looks like a decent day, so I will be out then. Sometimes I swim, but if it has been too hot too many days in a row the lake is yukky.

Stay the heck inside! I had to go out and look at the tree yesterday. It took longer to “get ready” to go out there than I actually spent out there! Too bad I have doctors appointments this week or I’d head for the Rockies.

I would have loved that water setup. We were blessed to spend summers in Florida with my grandparents. We enjoyed the beach and other swim spots.

When it's as hot as it is this week I stay inside and try hard not to go outside. The older I get the more the heat bothers me. But, seeing how much fun the kids are having I wish I could go back in time and enjoy all that backyard fun.

If I didn’t think I’d h hurt my back, I’d advocate for getting us a setup like that! I don’t need a deep pool at all!

I like the heat of summer but do go to the beach too cool off as it's a short ride from my home. What I can't stand is high temps combined with "high humidity." I feel it's the humidity that really takes it out of you. When it's like that AC is the only way to go! Or I could do what this guy is doing in this picture, lol.

Nothing beats the scorching heat for me than staying in an AC room. Heat index goes as high as 45-50 C and nothing can give comfort than an AC. I take shower thrice a day, dress in very light clothing, drinks plenty of water to stay hydrated and stay out of the sun.

Cold drinks or staying indoors whenever possible work wonders for me. My area here in Idaho doesn't usually get near as hot as where I used to live in Texas, thankfully.

@AmbiePam I would be fine to visit there in the short term, but a long term residency again wouldn't work for me.

I stay in more than I could. We got a used car that has better a/c than the fan, and we are using it for vacation. As a kid we only rarely played in the sprinkler, but we always had popsicles. I remember being pretty young and sitting under the shade tree with my friend, playing.

I stay inside mostly, too. My apartment stays pretty cool, even without the AC on. Or, I head to the pool.

I think if the weather proofing in these apartments were better my apartment wouldn’t be so hot. Unfortunately, I can see daylight through the side of my front door. This is actually something my last inspector told them they had to fix. It’s been 2 1/2 weeks since she told them to have it done, and it is not fixed. They have until Monday, but I’m not sure what happens if they fail to fix it. Maybe get fined?

I try not to go out! But the car has A/C as have all the shops so mostly you're not in the heat too much if you do have to go out.

It's the rainy season here, so not a problem. I wouldn't mind joining those kids in the photo. Looks like a lot of fun. But it probably would scandalize the neighborhood seeing an old doddering grandma going down the slide....assuming it holds my weight. lol
