Good morning fellow myLotters!
I am proud of myself because I am making sure I have enough to eat. this past week I was hungry. I didn't buy enough from Walmart last week. But I had numerous frozen meals in my freezer so I at least ate a frozen meal every day.
I almost finished those meals. but I am hungry without anything else so last night around 11:45 p.m. I ordered from Walmart about 5 frozen meals, (I didn't need more as I still have three already) cottage cheese, yogurt, pop-tarts, lunch meat, and buns. I got lettuce as I have shredded rotisserie chicken in the freezer so will make a salad and add the chicken from my freezer.
my groceries will be delivered this morning at 8 a.m.
I have grape tomatoes, and sugar cookies from the store bakery as snacks.
I have decided I am going to order a little bit as I have a problem with ordering too much and it breaks my heart because I have to throw food out it gets so spoiled No more of that. what I ordered last night should last a week. and next week I will order again and a little bit every week
Walmart really does have cheaper prices than the grocery store my peer sometimes takes me. Before I decided to lower my costs I would pay $80-$100 every one to two weeks. I paid with all fees, taxes, discounts, and driver tips, only $45.01 and this week I saved $10.20! I will spend $1 or $2 more next week for a cat toy. I forgot and submitted it this time. I usually order my cat a small toy each time I order food unless I forget as he looks so excited when the bags are on the living room floor and I put the food away
I am so excited I am getting food in four hours! I am up so I get the first delivery slot which is 8 a.m.
Do you prefer to have home delivery of food or shop in person?

Always shop inperson. You can't get food delivery here unless it is Amazon. I could do curbside pick up, but I like to walk around the store

If you drive then you are lucky as I would love to walk around the store. in two weeks my sister is taking me to the eye doctor in Walmart and said I could walk through the store and get some food

@snowy22315 I like to do that too. I enjoy grocery stores. it is my favorite type of place to shop! I am shopping at the actual Walmart in two weeks when my sister is taking me to get my eyes examined. She suggested we have lunch out, get my glasses then grocery shop.

I think both home delivery and shopping in person have their advantages. Home delivery is convenient, especially if you have a busy schedule or find it difficult to get to the store. On the other hand, shopping in person allows you to see and choose your items, and some people enjoy the experience of browsing in a store.

@LovesEverybody Jennifer, it's wonderful that you find the convenience of home delivery so helpful, especially when it comes to getting your groceries without needing a ride. It really does make life easier, doesn't it? And like you, I also enjoy the process of selecting food items myself, whether it's for the joy of discovering new things or simply having that control over my choices. Each option definitely has its own charm!

@annierose it makes getting groceries so much easier. I had to go out today so I shopped in Walmart and as the old saying goes it was easier pulling teeth than finding ingredients for a pizza!
But I still enjoyed myself!

exactly! there are advantages and disadvantages to both. my advantage is the convenience of not having to find somebody to drive me to the store each time I need food.
I like to look for food I may want to buy and I would love to choose my food

@LovesEverybody I haven’t used the 2 hour express delivery yet.
I included a screenshot of who qualifies for half off. Don’t you at least have food stamps or Medicaid?

@AmbiePam Thank you for the info. No, I just get my disability. I don't get food stamps either.
Does LIHEAP mean that program for the electricity or heat? I didn't notice that when my case manager showed me. I will have to ask my sister to look into it as I think I received some for my electric bill this year. But they only gave me a small amount and I have to pay full price now. I don't know if I can get that Walmart + with it

I belong to Walmart + too. since a few days four years ago before Covid came into our lives when my sister called me and told me to sign up and hurry up and get lots of nonperishable food.
I couldn't order so many times if I had to pay $9 each time which is what they tell me I would have to pay if I did not have Walmart +
I am on government assistance but my case manager doesn't think I qualify for the discounted Walmart + as she looked it up online as she thought of me and they do not accept social security disability. or at least that is how we interpreted it
If I could get it half off I would
Did you get your free express order for Walmart + customers only for the deal? I think it is over today or tomorrow. I forgot and it is quicker to get the first time of the day than to wait for a two-hour delivery.

@LovesEverybody - When you go buy grocery in person you can choose between the different products. Not all tomatoes look the same, I like fruits not too ripe, so I choose what I like more.
If I order I get what I get.

excellent point! if I can get a ride I try to go to the store I just had a turkey sandwich for lunch from the Walmart groceries I got today.
I put a slice of Roma tomato on my turkey sandwich every day. I bought three Roman tomatoes and one was mostly rotten. I would have kept it but it was more brown than orange/red. I have 1 1/2 tomatoes out of three not rotten I should have enough to last me until next week when I order again.
I also noticed my snack of a pint of grape tomatoes doesn't look good either. I will have to go through and separate the good to eat and throw out the bad

@LadyDuck Yes, the Roma tomatoes I get each week do look different than other tomatoes. Believe it or not, the first time I ordered Roma tomatoes when they were delivered I had to ask my case manager when she came to visit what kind of tomato did I buy? I wasn't paying that much attention when ordering. They are now my favorite tomato to put a slice on my sandwich and I like grape tomatoes to snack on.
I don't like getting what I get with delivery at all but nobody is willing to take me to the store in person weekly. and I can't drive.
My sister says to get delivery as she does something similar except she has shoppers pick out her groceries and then she goes in her car and picks her groceries up at the store. that is easier for her

@LovesEverybody Without a car, I'm dependent on others to take me shopping. Usually my son and his girlfriend, or my next-door neighbor take me. If I go after Bible study, the person who gives me a ride home will take me to Hy-Vee. I only order online when I'm desperate.

@just4him You are lucky to have people who will take me like you. I don't have a car either but then I don't have a license. Everybody I know wants me to get delivery. I guess so I get me out of their hair and not have to take me.
I am one of those who are desperate and have to order online. I pretend it doesn't matter to me so I am not a burden. To be fair, if we are out for something else my sister may take me. Once in a while if my sister needs things from Walmart she will call and ask if I want to go as she has no Walmart close to her
You are blessed to have so many rides to the grocery store

is this true that I thought I read Door Dash delivers groceries besides restaurant foods? I can't get DoorDash because my sister told me to look into it since I can't eat out very often unless I have my sister. It costs way more than I am willing to pay for a meal. If I ate that expensive of a meal, I would rather go out and get a hot meal as takeout is always too cold.

@LovesEverybody I understand that. Lately, I have been reading online about all the car accidents happening on our main road that leads to the grocery store I shop at. It is upsetting me and is making me think I should order online more just to avoid those crazy drivers.

I have seen stores around me that deliver which aren't Walmart.

WE get an order from Walmart about once a week. It's just so easy to have it delivered and today we got an early delivery. Walmart was offering free express delivery this week so we took advantage of it.

@LovesEverybody the express delivery was express for sure. It was shopped and here in less than an hour and we had quite a large order. Since we had a coupon for a free express we took advantage of it. Usually I don't have a delivery on the weekend but we wanted to use the coupon and we needed some basics so by the time we filled the cart it was bigger than I had expected.
I wouldn't pay the extra money for express when I can usually get a time that convenient for free.
It's such a pleasure to have everything delivered and the time saved from not wandering around the store is worth it. I also find that I save money by not going to the store because there's no tendency to throw extra stuff in the cart.

@Marilynda1225 I am happy you got it in such a fast time! I misread and thought it said express meant to get it in two hours.
I wouldn't pay extra for express if I could get them for free. May I ask why you don't usually get deliveries on the weekends? is there something I don't know that I should? I miss a lot of things.
I like having everything picked out for me and delivered because it is exhausting going to the Walmart store as it is so huge and I can never find anything. I can't find the flavored water to save my life when I go. My sister who can find things in stores has helped me look for the flavored water and we have no idea where it is.
Yet I order Fiju apple water and some others and I get them if they have them
did you get an email from Walmart on Monday telling you starting today they will have a new two-hour time frame to wait for delivery instead of the usual hour?

I get a delivery once a week or maybe every week and a half. I order my groceries about midnight so I ordered at midnight on Saturday this week and picked the first delivery slot as I always do of 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. They came at 8:21 a.m. An extremely nice lady delivered it
I thought about getting an early delivery yesterday like you but I read it is between two hours but I could get it in an hour with my usual time
Were you satisfied with free express delivery?
it is not so bad to get food delivered and by the time I order and by the time I get my food, it is fun to open the bags as I forget some of what I ordered!
I decided to accept how my life is and that means I can't drive myself to the store or when I can get a ride and if i do, the ride will be once or twice a month

that is a really good idea to ensure you go for a walk as if you don't go for a walk to get your food you may go hungry.
I think it is illegal to walk to the grocery stores around my neighborhood as many cars and huge trucks are traveling them. it is dangerous to walk them.
there is one bus route that drops people off in the middle of the highway to get to the grocery store. I have no idea how people aren't run over by vehicles. I had nightmares after I saw a man get off at that stop, The bus sped off so I couldn't see how that happened
I hope you have a super day!

Walmart, I find, is not the cheapest on everything. But it is one of the main stores I shop with Ruler Foods and Aldi being close seconds and thirds. Ruler is almost exactly like an Aldi store.
I prefer to shop in person. I find I get the best deals that way. Plus, I like to get out and around and I want to see, touch and feel what I buy.

@LovesEverybody The thing for me is how does the price at one place compare to another? Canned vegetables at Aldi, for example, are cheaper than Walmart. Ruler Foods has cheaper macaroni and cheese than Aldi and Walmart. Pork steaks are cheaper at Walmart than any other store I have been to. Green and red peppers and onions are cheaper at Ruler.
I don't look at the total of what I spend at one store. I compare what I'd have spent LESS at a store offering a better price, and of course I know my prices, so I know when a good deal exists or when to leave something on the shelf and wait to get it somewhere cheaper.
If one shops at only one store, MOST of the time it will be true that that person will ultimately spend more because the cost savings on some items will be washed out by the higher prices on the other items in your cart.
To me, I think of it this way. Every penny matters. And so often I hear people who really need those pennies most are the ones most likely to squander them.

@porwest You are impressive! the problem is I don't buy most of the things you mentioned.
I mostly buy cottage cheese, yogurt, and a snack besides frozen meals
I have a frozen dinner for lunch and a turkey sandwich for dinner. I see no problem with it. I am finally happy!
I have an order from Walmart coming this morning. I spent a little extra because I bought my cat a $1-$2 toy as he likes to get something when he sees all those bags too! then my cat needed treats because it is the Fourth of July next week and since he came to this house as a kitten every holiday he gets some treats in his food bowl for breakfast and a gift for every holiday there is!

the Aldi closest to me is a tiny store that is poorly stocked. I never go to it. I have never heard of Ruler Foods.
I find Walmart so much cheaper because I got some breakfast and lunch foods and five frozen dinners and paid $45.01 yesterday whereas if I bought what I bought at either of the other two stores I used to go to, that is easily $60+.I bought enough that I am full today after my breakfast.
I can get some deals when my peer takes me shopping but those are few and far between and she uses her phone as a calculator and adds up how much I spend

It is a mix of both. For Vegetables and similar food items, I prefer going to the stores and getting the things. We can sort things and select the ones we like , once we are in the store. However, we use the online delivery for rest of the items. It is mostly to take advantage of the super savings, offers and also save the travel cost. So, in short it is a combination of both.

Good idea to go to the store for things like vegetables. I like the idea of getting the other food you buy with delivery. That way you can get some things you need to see and the rest you probably can't see anyway so why not have them delivered
