Update to Major Prayer Request

Thank you all for praying about my prayer request yesterday, and for all those wishing me well. It’s all worked out okay, thank the Lord. Yesterday, I went to the office, and told the manager I expected the maintenance man to be at my apartment by the end of the day, working on what they had been given 3 weeks to fix, but never did. I think this may be her first job as a manager because she acted intimidated (I’m not scary). I think what got it all done was that HER manager was in the office.
Long story short, they fixed one thing the right way, and the second thing “good enough”, I say good enough because it was going to take 3 weeks to do one job properly, but I didn’t have 3 weeks. I got ahold of the inspector, and she said she’d come by this afternoon (she just left). As I thought, she was not happy with the “good enough”, but she said it would do. The final verdict is Housing will continue to pay their portion, and I don’t have to move.
Thank you again!
*I found out they’ve done this to two other residents. And HER manager found that out at the same time I did. Unfortunately, one resident was forced to move.

That happens sadly. I was on section 8 for five years, myself. I know what you're going through. George and I priced out when we decided to move on our own, because he was making to much. It worked out though.

Phew! It took some doing, but I'm SO relieved that you can stay. I don't know how it all works, but it's so not fair that you would have been penalized for something management didn't get done. Thank goodness it all got done in time and passed (hopefully the 2nd thing will be be done properly at some point?).

I thought the same thing. I was like, can’t you just fine them? Fine them until they fix it. Why punish me?
I don’t think the second thing will get fixed properly unless I push for it, but I don’t think I’ll push until fall. They’d have to take off the entire front door to put a new frame in, and I can’t deal with the heat. I could go somewhere else while he does it, but I don’t trust strangers in my apartment.

Thankful things turned out “good enough” for now. It’s terrible what minimal work landlords will do for their money, isn’t it.

I am very glad you don't have to move, and they at least are fixing the faucet/sink issue. Moving is exhausting, I know.

Maybe now they will start doing better upkeep. In the apartment complex where my sister lived, due to water damage or poor foundation or something a string of four apartments were deemed unlivable. Her complex put them in different apartments and had to tear the floors out partially to repair it, but they got it done and kept their residents. If you ever have to move, look for a complex run by VOA--Volunteers of America. Their regional office for this complex actually was in Oklahoma. They had their issues, but they treated her well and the others too.

From what you were describing yesterday I think they would have been on shaky ground trying to force you to move. The idea!

Amber, I am so sorry I didn't see your previous post, but praise God, it worked out okay. You know I sure would have been praying about it, too. I am so thankful you don't have to move. Will the good enough issue get fixed?

I’m sure I’d have to badger them to get it done. I’ll wait until fall when it’s cooler because they need to order a new door frame (it takes weeks), and then they’ll have to take the door completely off. It’s too hot right now. As you can see from my included picture, to keep the daylight from coming in the side of the door, they screwed weather stripping into the side of the door. I was shocked, but relieved the inspector accepted the work.

@1creekgirl Oh yes, I can lock it. They used a door that was too small (it was like that when I moved in). So small when it used to rain the water would drench the floor in the entry because the gaps were so large between the door and the frame. This should help my electric bill too, now that the light and thus the heat aren’t rushing in.

@AmbiePam How did that happen to the door? Sure hope they'll replace it soon. You can lock your door, right?

Well this certainly made me smile. I'm so glad you don't have to move and got some attention to your things that need fixing. Hope the bigger issue is resolved quickly too.

This post was almost two months ago. How are your living conditions there in your apartment now. Has the manager seen to it that she's done the right legal obligation to all the residents?
