Bought a new mattress

Hubby and I bought a new mattress. Went to three different stores and in each one no matter what mattress we laid on we kept coming back to the same one. Since we seemed to be going back to the same mattress in each store I decided not to go to any more stores and just get it at Mattress Firm (our third stop).
The mattress we got is a Tempur-pedic hybrid probreeze mattress. The company sets the price (not the store) so it was the same price everywhere. And all stores offered $500 off. The price was $4099. With tax and an adjustable base (including warranty for it) and delivery the total came out to $5333. We also got a free sheet and mattress protector and free setup and haul away.
We ended up spending more money than we originally planned but this mattress is supposed to last a long time without sagging and it keeps you cooler, which is a big plus. I hope we will love the mattress once we start sleeping on it and won't need to return it back and exchange for a different one. I think we have 120 days to sleep on it.

Yes but I rather spend more for a mattress that will last a long time than buy a much cheaper one that will breakdown shortly after use.

@lovebuglena I agree with you there. George and I have had ours a good few years. Not sure when we got it, but it's been a while.

@kaylachan The mattress we have now is from the 90s. I think it's the mattress that existed when my parents bought the house, bedroom furniture included. It was definitely time for an upgrade. I am surprised it lasted this long.

A lot of money for a mattress. I do love the fact that these places do usually add on the haul-away service. That is so very nice.

@celticeagle Nah. We are gonna ask the contractor if he can sow it into a few pieces so it will be easier to take down.

Glad we didn’t have to pay for the haul away though hubby gave a tip so they can also take the bed. Though the bed frame they didn’t take because it was hard to maneuver it down the stairs and they didn’t want to damage the wall.

Let's hope so. It's one thing to lay on it for a few minutes and a whole different story to actually sleep on it for eight hours straight.

Haven’t slept on it yet though it was delivered Sunday. We are still at my mom’s house.

I got a new mattress last summer and was astounded at the price, but wow...that's a fortune. I hope it lasts forever!

Things just cost so much now. I try hard to buy good quality items, I want them to last a long time.

The technology of the mattress (if that is the correct word) was developed by NASA. There were cheaper mattresses in this brand but we wanted a hybrid one and one that keeps you cooler.

I’ve heard nothing but great things about the Tempur-Pedic beds/mattresses. From what people say, they are expensive but worth the price. You should hopefully get a long life out of it.

@lovebuglena I agree. This is definitely one thing that it is worth spending the extra money on. And given that you will probably own it for at least 8-10 years (if not longer), that's a lot of nights of back pain and restless sleep if you buy something cheap that doesn't hold up.

@lovebuglena I wouldn't pay an hourly rate for a cleaning company, because what is their incentive to work fast to get the job done? The longer they take, the more money they make. I would rather hire a company that charged a flat rate for the service.

It better be this way. I think when it comes to a mattress you can't be cheap. You gotta be willing to fork out a lot of money or you will pay the price later.

That sounds nice. My mother keeps saying she needs to get a new mattress, but she hasn't done it yet.

That can happen sometimes. This salesperson was better than the two at the other stores. And price was the same everywhere so just decided to get it at the third store. I totally forgot about checking out the sleep number mattress. Maybe that one is better. But too late now.

And it’s nice to be able to pay for it over time.
