Could Your Life Have Gone Another Way?

In my 72 years, I think that there are several times that my life could have gone another way. For instance when I was in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and traveling with the carnival. An ex-boyfriend came up to me one day and told me that my boss at the time had plans to take me over the border and sell me. I quickly left that boss and went back to the original boss I had started on the road with. There were 4 marriages where I could have lived out differently and probably better for my daughter. I think we all have probably had times in our lives where if we had made other decisions our lives may have gone down a completely different path. I hope you will share that with us here.

Several of my choices caused my life to be different. I decided not to accept a job and it was in the office where I went that I met my husband. That surely changed my life, as I left my previous boyfriend, totally changed by future projects for life, got married, left my country to live in another country. I regret nothing.

That is great that you have no regrets.

Mentally I've rehashed a lot of major decisions and events in my life. Straight out of high school, I had a chance to work in British Columbia for a mining company. Self-doubt kept me from proceeding (I chickened out). Almost everything in my life from that point would have been different.

@celticeagle I'm content with who I've become. I would be different. Don't know if that would have been better or worse.

Interesting how a different road could have led us all down another path!
I think of my mom. She was born in a concentration camp as the 4th child in her family. A Caucasian nurse working at the camp offered to adopt my mom . . . but my grandparents said no. Imagine how different life would have been for my mom if they had agreed to it!

I know that it was fate that always pushed me to do the things I did in my life, I had an unhappy first marriage and if I had stayed in it and was unhappy I would not have gone to Latvia with my mom and I would not have met my soul mate and I would not have had the happiest 20 years of my life,

It's good then that you left that first marriage.

I think we all have those moments in our lives, too. But regret gets us nowhere. All we can do is learn and move on.

Sure we learn and move on but don't you ever wonder?

@celticeagle Sure. I think we all do, but I don't let those what-ifs live rent-free in my head. Besides, I am confident that I would have moved up in management and he and I would have divorced decades ago. I also think I would have grown tired of maintaining the indoor pool. But it was nice working where I was, dating him, and going to his house with the indoor pool when he and I were still dating.

@Chellezhere ........No, that's not what I meant at all. I just wondered if people ever thought of such things.

@celticeagle Oh the choices we make! At one point I had to choose between staying living in Paris or returning to Ireland. I’ll never know how things would have worked out if I’d done the sensible thing and stayed on in Paris.

You just never know. I wonder what my life would have been like if I had moved to another local.

I see. What might have been your life if you got the job at Pacific Stereo?
