7/11/24 - Update On My Husband

My husband said the State people were at the facility again yesterday. Apparently the rehab facility received an "F" when it came to the kitchen and the food provided. Maybe there will be better food from now on. There's nothing spectacular about my husband's progress in PT. He still needs help getting from the bed to wheelchair and wheelchair to bed. Today he will be trying the steps again. I will contact Millie in the Business Office by email from now on because she answered my email promptly and received a corrected invoice from Corporate which she forwarded to me. You have to really be on top of them when it comes to their billing. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

@MarieCoyle She did get me a new invoice promptly...but then they do want the money so it was in her best interests to be prompt!!!

Somehow, I don't think she is a nominee for Employee of the Month!

There may be more things they are failing on in addition to the food. That is why these random yearly check ups are needed. I cannot believe he is yet to see a doctor. Not to say I doubt you. . . It is just unbelievable how messed up this rehab is.

The rehab facility that he's been in before and he wanted to transfer to, refuses to return my calls.

If their food is causing an inspection, it’s a safe bet that the rest of the facility is operating in less than optimal condition.

Well, it shouldn't take 3 hours to get a response to a call light.

Linda you are paying for his "care" out of pocket and he has made almost no progress. This is a disaster.

He is going to be 83 years old. He used to have muscular legs before February 1; and now they are skin and bones. It takes a long time to regain any strength after losing that much...and he's lost about 60 pounds. It is a disaster. I will agree with you on that. Every time we both say "2 weeks", it takes 2 weeks more. He will be doing steps today. I'll let everyone know how he does. Thank you for your concern.

For what they are charging you, this should be a top notch service facility. I hope the state does their job.

It sounds like several people have filed complaints! That is good that the state has stepped in now to correct the food problem. You may want to continue in other areas of service there with complaint to State!! They usually get results and fast!

Just curious, do you have a plan B in the event the place your husband is staying gets shut down for health code violations?

There is a place that my husband has been in before that is a LOT better. I could try and get him in there; but they don't return my calls. There are a couple other good options.

I hope everything will be fine. I remember also my dad when he was hospitalized, we also have to transfer him on a wheel chair to the bathroom and back to the bed. But everything is cool now, with much prayers everything is fine, and I can't thank God enough how he make way on our bills, can you imagine my dad sister won a lottery and help us pay the hospital bills. Is it God funny sometimes how he helped us? I really don't know what to do when it happened and then God's help come just in the right time. I hope everything is going to be fine very soon. God bless.

She seems to be easier to get along with finally. Do you think that your hubby has reached his pinnacle for rehabilitation or do you think that there is more to come?

I think the reason Millie answered so quickly is that there was a paper trail. In the past when she ignored my many voicemails, there was no proof. I think my husband's improvements have plateaued. His progress will be more slow from now on. He is still improving...just not as quickly.

@LindaOHio - He needs to gain muscles. No matter how much I am doing to help my husband gain weight, he is losing weight every month. I know that it's cachexia, caused by his congestive heart failure. His heart is not strong enough to pump blood.

I hope you'll see some improvement soon in your husband's recovery, but that's wonderful that maybe the food will be better now. It's a good thing you've been so conscientious about keeping up with all that billing.

It is terrible that there is no progress. Especially since he's been doing this a while. And you are paying out of your own pocket, which is even more frustrating. Things should be progressing and yet it seems they are doing the opposite. I am sorry you have to go through this. I really hope he gets to come home soon.

@LindaOHio Oh wow! That is insane. And that's time you can't get back. What did he originally end up in the hospital for? I remember he fell...

@lovebuglena When they were checking him over, they found fluid around his heart and he was in AFIB (which he always is); so they checked him into the hospital.

Sorry to be so indiscreet, but is he able to use the bathroom without assistance? Assuming he can get out of the chair. at home.that is. They are both very important for any possible home consideration. Hopefully, they get on the stick with the meals now. People that aren't feeling well especially don't need to be eating unappetizing crap. Yay for Millie!

I find myself very happy to hear they got a big, fat F. When a grade is that bad during that type of inspection, they have to make changes immediately. Then, there will be a surprise inspection, often more than one, to be sure they complied and did what they had to do. This is good news, that your husband and the other patients will have decent food very soon!
