Things are looking "up" if you're a fan of summer. If not, then you'd rather the sun go "down" awhile and take a chill pill. Of course, you can't stop the sun from shining or the humidity from frizzing up your hair. So, just relax, bear the heat, and add these "UP and DOWN" tunes to your music playlist... Your comments and musings on these picks, and your own favorite "Up or Down" titled songs or music trivia always welcome... ***COMING UP- PAUL McCARTNEY (1980) -This song was #1 in the U.S. for Sir Paul. It was his first single from his 2nd solo LP called McCartney II. Paul showed off his musical versatility playing every instrument on the track, something he did on his first solo effort. Lyrically, this tune is not one of McCartney's best, but catchy sounding nonetheless! *Fun music clip to watch with Paul and his wife Linda playing all the people and instruments seen in the video... ENJOY! TRIVIA CHALLENGE ***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. See if you can guess the artists, songs or facts. Words in "quote marks" provide valuable clues! 1. When the song "Coming Up" hit number 1 in the U.S. in "1980" it may have influenced this "Former Beatle's" return to the studio to record his "own LP." -Do you know which Beatle I'm talking about? "Double" points if you know the name of his LP. 2. The 1982 song "Up Where We Belong" was a "duet" sung by "this English artist" and Jennifer Warnes. The tune was perfect for the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman," with the track winning the Oscar for Best Original Song. This singer rose to fame "at the 1969 Woodstock Festival," when he belted out his version of the Beatles cover "With A Little Help from My Friends." You might know this "Mad Dog and Englishman" from another of his tunes "You Are So Beautiful." -Do you know the name of the singer who performed this song with Jennifer Warnes? 3. The song was released for this artist's "Caribou LP" in 1974. This "English piano playing spectacle wearing singer," had a hit with this tune, where it charted at #2 in the U.S. "A live duet with George Michael" was released in 1991 which was a huge hit, going to #1 in both the US and UK. This artist does very well singing duets, another collaboration with Kiki Dee produced "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" which reached #1 in both the U.S. and U.K. The word "SUN" is part of the song title and the tune's a heartfelt "down" (er). -Do you know the name of the artist and his down-titled song? Let's not "back down" from the challenge of figuring out the songs and artists. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. I'll be glad to supply one. Or, as the Little River Band would say, "Help is on the Way." Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition in the near future. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned... Source- Wikipedia & songfacts.com

@dgobucks226 I did not know that Joe Cocker admired Ray Charles a lot. I missed the John Lennon question since I believe that Double Fantasy was released before he passed away.

@dgobucks226 I should have known #2. I learned about Joe Cocker when my dad passed last year and we played his beach playlist at the memorial gathering. He had "Darling Be Home Soon" on it. of course I know who Elton John is.

1. Would you be talking about Double Fantasy by Yoko Ono’s husband? 2. Joe Cocker! 3. Reggie Dwight! Don’t let the sun set on me ‘cause that would be hot! I mean, losing everything is like the sun doing down on him. Speaking of Joe Cocker, this spoof/“captioned” version of “With a Little Help From My Friends” is riotous. “Oh, baby, hoggify….”

Yes, Paul certainly was some songwriter! McCartney is the wealthiest rock star ever, with an estimated worth over $1.5 billion. He is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful musician and contemporary songwriter in history. Thanks for commenting!
