One of life’s simple pleasures

Many of the simplest things in life are also the best – and often, the most underrated. In my book, one of life’s great pleasures is walking barefoot on cool grass (or in the case of our ‘lawn’, maybe I should just say ‘on cool plants’) on a warm summer’s day. Something I have been enjoying the past couple of days. When was the last time you enjoyed a barefoot stroll? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2024.

I rarely go barefoot. We were never allowed to go barefoot on the farm as children and the habit has stuck with me. I hobble along like a lame duck now if I'm barefoot on anything but carpet or lino.

Was that for fear of snakes and scorpions and such?

@Fleura On the farm I guess it was. Also treading on chook manure, nails, getting trodden on by horses, pet calves.

@JudyEv Oh yes having your bare toes trodden on by a horse would not be a good outcome!

I believe the last time I took a barefoot stroll was while I was in a beach. That would be some 20 years ago. I do not recollect any time I walked barefoot on grass.Perhaps, I feel i may get bite by insects or get dirt in between the toes. I do agree some of the best things in life are simple .Yet we all fail to enjoy those well and regret much later. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@fleura I spent most of my childhood barefoot in Africa and got rather a shock when I moved back to Ireland aged 14 and had to wear shoes everywhere. I do love walking barefoot on grass.

I worry about stepping on a bee or picking up a tick. I do wear flip flops in the house all year around. I am pretty much confined to staying in the house these days anyway. I rarely go out except for doctors' appointments or going to see my husband. I'm glad walking in the grass gives you pleasure. Have a good day.

The last time I really enjoyed walking barefoot was last Summer this May 2024, when we have our company outing at the Zambales beach here in the Philippines. I really enjoyed walking barefoot at the beach front, feel of the fresh air and the sound of the waves with my barefoot. I also really enjoy simple things in life. I hope everyone finds joy in simple things like me and you.

Oh, it had to be 26 years ago when I last lived with my parents. You don’t want to walk barefoot around here in the grass or you might step in dog poop. It’s an unfortunate reality. Keep enjoying that grass!

I can't do this, we have shattered glass throughout the grass in our yard. I have to wear shoes:)
