Jane Austen, a women's writer who knew the way to our hearts. Well, for a change and not expecting it, i watched a few days ago a 2-part miniseries about Jane Austen itself and it justified its name, Miss Austen Regrets. She was acted by Olivia Williams. I missed maybe first 20 minutes but continued following the story. The story follows Austen when she is about to turn 40, she is already established writer, not so successful in selling, she tries to change that and her 18 year-old niece, that is seeking her guidance about love cause, the young girl wants to get married. It is not all jolly and this niece tends to get not so lady with punches to Jane's face, not literal ones, reminding her now and then that flirting isn't for her anymore and similar quotes. We can also see, which crushed me a bit how her own brother, she had 2 brothers and a sister, said that he really wishes she was married. Her mother is similar. Only her sister comforts her, understands her and we find out she was behind one unsuccessful proposal of Jane's but at the end of the series, Jane admits she wouldn't have had the chance to write if she got married. I also read about Jane Austen's life and, yes, brothers were not good in managing their business or the estate but women were looked down cause, they were women. To continue about the series, I liked seeing Tom Hiddleston, as almost fiance of Jane's niece, when the niece accused her aunt that she separated her from the boy. Always easier to say that, when in fact, he wasn't that interested. And, the main male lead from Downtown Abbey, Hugh Bonneville. Jane's niece is also his niece and there is a scene when he regretted that Jane didn't marry him. Not sure if that's true cause, reading Austen's bio, she was proposed twice, by young and poor lawyer, who had no future and got married later to a wealthier woman and by older man, a business man and this was the man of her age. I am mostly sorry she died in pain. Some say at the age of 40, some say at the age of 41. Her legs turned black, and her body was heavy, she barely walked. That's what i read, death wasn't shown on the screen, just that her niece married for love and that was the last love advice from her aunt Jane. Very realistic tv series or a tv movie. I guess they divided movie in half here. Gloomy as well but that's life back then and now.

Oh sure, but can't turn back the clock, the best you can do is try not to repeat the same mistakes.

or repeat the mistake a few times until you learn you can do better and different. i agree with you, it is hard to bring back the past. it can't be done.

@grenery8 I read her novels way back in ancient history and do not remember much about them. She was a talented writer.

I put the trailer now. I liked it how the series was so opposite of her jolly novels and that made me to watch more. Also, Austen's novel, Persuasion really speaks to me and i believe she maybe spoke about her real experience there. I am sorry she wasn't appreciated in her time, she struggled in a way while today, she is a goddess of romantic novels.

That sounds a very tragic ending for her. Her books were really enjoyable.

Thank you for the review and critique. I regret letting a guy slip out of my life. I don't know where the relationship would have headed. Have a good day.

welcome. i also have that one regret and what i regret is i didn't think i deserve something different, actually better and why i thought that is cause i was tired of other, unsuccessful things and people. when i'm feeling down, that memory makes me cry; i had so many signs but i didn't recognise them. have a good day too.

My regret is, that there are not enough women and too much time. Wait! I mean, too many women and not enough time.
