Do you care if you win?

Amyra (my 13 year old niece) won first for drawing (pictured), and painting. We’re really proud of her. I think what I appreciate is that while she likes winning, it doesn’t affect her mood if she loses. I don’t care if I lose, although I much prefer winning. I’ll try my absolute best, don’t get me wrong, but it just rolls off my back. Some people can’t even stand losing a board game. I definitely know some people like that. What do you think? (If you don’t know what the picture is…that’s okay.)

It is a beautiful picture, she has such a great eye for detail with the shading that she used. I think that life is more about the journey then the finish line, except for where I will spend eternity, that is. I love the journey, and win or lose I can accept both.

I am guessing the pic is one of the wise men? I prefer to win like everybody, nut it doesn't happen very often..sad to say.

You’re a winner in life, snowy, and that’s the biggest thing. It’s Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus. You were close.

@snowy22315 It’s easy to miss Mary with the lack of color.

Congratulations, Amyra! It's often the goal to "win" in competitive situations. Win or lose, good sportsmanship is the key, but yah, not everyone has that . In this one skating competition, I didn't skate well (I fell, and because of that I had to fill time, so I made up stupid stuff . . . yah it was a bad). I was shocked that I actually won that competition . I was 1st place, got the trophy, blah blah blah . . . but it was the cruddiest performance of my life. It seemed I won because I did the least worst out of everyone (even my coach said so ). So winning isn't everything . . . that one certainly didn't make me proud.

Wow, that’s an interesting story. Your coach definitely was blunt! I would expect that from skating though since it is such a tough sport, and you can’t worry about people’s feelings all the time.

@AmbiePam I did however have a few adult friends who were into "the win". Just could not believe these grown women would cry (like bawl out cry) over not winning .

Her creche drawing is lovely. I was proud and am proud that some portion of my writing has been published in small presses. I delighted my Mom with my efforts and that meant the most to me.

That is a beautiful drawing of manger scene and she is loaded with talent! I hope she keeps up with her sketching/drawing! I always try my best too, but it is all about having fun while doing it. if you enjoy it, then it is worth it whether you win or lose!

That's a lovely drawing! Glad that despite her young age, she doesn't take defeat too seriously. I'm not sure I was like that at 13, now I'm more able to accept losing unless I believe it was unfair. Alright, I mean I'm able to see things more clearly and objectively... perhaps.

She draws well. I can see why she won. Looks like a budding artist, What I do online I might not win anything for but if a person says they like what I have written that is the best thing they could say to me,

Her drawing is really well done. It's good that she takes the good with the bad. She'll have a much happier life with that attitude. I know some that hate to lose board games too. Once I realise that, I mostly try to avoid playing with them.

Amyra started early with arts in painting and drawing. At 13, her talent has won her a first place. She's brilliant! So proud of your niece. She will do more great things! My son, now 18, is similar. He studied in High School through Year 12 -graphic arts, designing drawing... His teacher paid him to illustrate for her published book. Congratulations to Amyra!!!!

I do not care if I win when it comes to games and such. In a talent contest I might have a problem, but I do not enter those. I like what my daughter has said to her children about board games. The game and playing it, is not about winning. It is about being together.

Amyra has so much talent when it comes to sketching/drawing etc. Her attention to detail is remarkable. If she does this well at 13 yrs old I can only imagine what she'll accomplish as she gets older. I don't really care if I win or lose. I just try to enjoy the game.

I love the picture. I'm glad she won first place for it. Winning is fun, but it doesn't matter to me. What matters is the fun I have doing whatever I'm doing.

Congratulations on her win, as far as if I care if I win at things, it really depends on the situation. If it's something I've dedicated a lot of time to, then yes, otherwise? Meh, not so much.
