The Yellow Jacket's Last Day

Well, I hope they have had their fun and a good life, but it's over for those yellow jackets in my yard today that attacked me a few days ago when I mowed over their nest. Rottler Pest Solutions will be arriving today at 12:15 P.M. to knock them out. I still think I could have successfully eradicated them myself, but the wife insisted I call someone and have them do it DESPITE my four years of prior pest control experience, even if I have been out of the job for better than 10 years. It's not a bad charge. Only costing me $250. I am looking forward to them being taken care of, though.

Even though you probably could have done it yourself, it's always smart to listen to your wife

@porwest It's better than seeing the smug look and the "I TOLD YOU SO" escape from her loving lips!

@NJChicaa Well, I don't know that it actually expires. It certainly loses potency. It's more than 10 years old. Ideally, though, dust works better and the stuff they sell over the counter is crap compared to professional grade... So, it may not have been AS practical or effective the method I would have used, but pest control, as I recall, was also never a "one size fits all" kind of thing. It was a bit of a creative process based on experience.

I am not sure she did. I literally know what I am doing. I did probably more than 100 yellow jacket jobs in my time as a pest control guy. lol

I would have figured out how to kill them myself in order to save that $250!

@porwest It's all about planning and executing a stealth attack on the nest. Hit 'em hard before they have time to figure out what happened. lol

Well, that was the original plan, especially since I was of course, IN pest control. But the wife was sure I'd be under a second attack. lol

@moffittjc Exactly. I stood there a good amount of time studying their flight patterns and determined they were mostly going into the open lot across the street, so I thought I'd fill my back pack sprayer with some Termidor I still have left (even though it's 10 years old) and blast them from the other side from about 15-20 feet away. Then I would have waited for activity to slow and blasted directly into the hole, waited a day or two, checked activity and reapplied treatment or determined dormancy, then dug the nest out ultimately. Normally we would have used dust, but... I told the wife the plan and she said, "Just call them," and gave me a look. I caved and called. lol

He came and went. He will be back on Friday to check activity and we'll go from there.

That was 250$ you could have done something else with all you had to do is go where they were after dark or in the early morn with some spray & knocked them out that way it would have been a lot cheaper, I had a bad wasp nest in my bay tree that was bigger than a basket ball & when they ALL went in at night & filled the holes with bug spray & that next morn when they were still in it I sprayed it again then cut off the branch the nest was on & burned it.

I originally suggested to my wife I could take care of it. I did pest control for better than four years in a past life and probably did over 100 yellow jacket jobs. She still said no. lol

@porwest She must have read what I wrote about my ex-husband and his baggy shorts and lack of underwear!!! The ER at the hospital loved him!!! They got a great laugh out of his experience.

@porwest I wouldn't have, I'd told you what I just said & let you do your thing, but it's good to know you do listen to her when you want to.

That's good that the wasps will be eradicated. Probably best that someone else does it - just in case.

In an odd way I REALLY wish there had been a camera on me during the original encounter. That HAD to be a sight to behold. lol
