My laptop that I have had for seven years just split across the top when I started to close it. I called my oldest son and he said it will not work anymore. He told me how to open it up to take the hard drive out. So I did that. I will threw one half away this week and the other half away next week. I am glad I had two laptops. I got the second one that I am on now when it was on clearance. My oldest son said laptops are made to last for six or seven years than they quit working or break like mine did. I was in tears I loved that laptop. I know I am strange. My husband said we can sell one share of our stock and buy another laptop. So we will be doing that. I will look for one in the mean time and go on Senior day to get a discount I had most of my pictures on that laptop to. But that is ok I can take those pictures again. We want to go back to the zoo and the duck park anyway.

You're right, seven years is a long time to have a laptop. Some can last longer, and some shorter. It just all depends on how much use it gets and how often it gets opened and closed. Hinges on my laptops broke like after a year because I was taking it to school.

My husband cashed out some stocks this morning the money will be in our checking account in two or three days. The one store that has the cheapest laptops has Senior discount day on the first Tuesday of the month so I will wait until than to look at their laptops.

Because I am silly. I took the hard drive out so it should not matter but I am used to throwing it away in two pieces.

Yes, computers definitely have a short shelf life. I figure mine won't last much longer. I hope you get a good bargain on a new one and love it as much as you did your old one. Have a good day.

Although I have several chromebooks around here, my windows based laptop is toast. Actually, I had one for about 15 years, the other one I don't know how old it is..I was given it as a gift. I will have my son send a windows laptop. Fixing and selling puters is what he is doing for a living.

My oldest son fixes and repairs laptops and anything else you can think of. He does that on the side. He is a Manager full time at a Grocery Store.

If you have the hard drive you should still have your pictures.

don't just throw away, as they are hazardous...you can enquire at the local store & they will probably help you with places where it can be recycled, they might pay you also...

Im sure you're hard drive is ok, it's the laptop that's broken you can have the files transferred to a new one. Mine is reaching ten years this september and it's showing the signs of aging.sadly, I've been poor at saving money for a new one.

I'm very attached to my laptop too. We used to our gadgets, don't we? I find it difficult to have to learn all about a new one.

For a laptop that is constantly in use 7 years is a long time. At least you have another one to use.
