Day 189 – Divorce Deuteronomy 24:1 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he found uncleanness in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house, 2 when she departs from his house, and goes and becomes another man’s wife, 3 if the latter husband detests her and writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her as his wife, 4 then her former husband who divorced her must not take her back to be his wife after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before JEHOVAH, and you will not bring sin on the land which JEHOVAH your Elohiym gives you as an inheritance. God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Supreme God Yeshuwa – Jesus Iesous – Jesus Theos – Supreme Divinity Kurios – Supreme Authority Pneuma – Breath, Spirit God’s character: Holy Just Divorce is high across the globe. Some countries have more divorces per capita than others with the Maldives leading the divorce rate globally, and Vietnam having the fewest divorces. JEHOVAH gave permission for people to divorce for any reason, but men could not remarry their wives if they remarried. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, it didn’t mean you would have a perfect marriage. Divorce happens among Christians and non-Christians alike. Yeshuwa and Paul addressed the issue. Mark 10:2 The Pharisees came and asked Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” testing Him. 3 And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?” 4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her.” 5 Iesous answered and said to them, “Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6 From the beginning of the creation, Theos ‘made them male and female.’ 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh’; then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore, what Theos joined together, let not man separate.” 10 In the house His disciples also asked Him again about the same matter. 11 He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12 If a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” 1 Corinthians 7:10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Kurios: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 11 Even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. A husband is not to divorce his wife. 12 To the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 13 A woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise, your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 15 However, if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But Theos called us to peace. 16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? Iesous explained the reason for the divorce law: the hardness of men’s hearts. He then told them the only reason a person could divorce: Sexual immorality. Matthew 19:7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?” 8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” If you divorce for any other reason other than sexual immorality, you cause your spouse to commit adultery if they marry another person. Elohiym told the people he hated divorce. Malachi 2:14 Yet you say, “For what reason?” Because JEHOVAH has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, with whom you have dealt treacherously; yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant. 15 Did He not make them one, having a remnant of the Pneuma? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore, take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. 16 “For JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel says He hates divorce, for it covers one’s garment with violence,” says JEHOVAH of hosts. “Therefore, take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.” Divorce was never JEHOVAH’S choice. Because of the hardness of men’s hearts, they divorce. Paul told the people they should reconcile their differences. When people seek divorce, the court will suggest reconciliation before they continue with the divorce. The reason given on the divorce certificate is irreconcilable differences. Don’t let the hardness of your heart separate you from the person you made a covenant with between you and Theos. Let Him guide your marriage and reconcile your differences so you can lead a life of oneness with your spouse. Let’s pray: Father, help me resolve any irreconcilable differences with my spouse. Give me love again and let me show my spouse Your love as You work in my marriage. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 25 July 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

@Tampa_girl7 I had to run for my life within 2 months. Of course we should try to make better choices but there are many wolves in sheep's clothing.

@Kandae11 It is a blessing that you escaped. Yes, not everyone is what they appear to be.

Divorce causes many problems in this world, and it encourages adultery too. Once divorced, I feel one should not remarry, but devote our life to God then, instead of getting married again.
