Good Morning 7/25 All eyes on the Fridge

Anyway, my mother is having a new fridge delivered on Saturday. She should have fun clearing out the old fridge. She probably has a billion things in there. She could eat just from the fridge for a month. She says one thing she is looking forward to is the ice maker with it. The old one did not have one. I would like to have one with the freezer component on the bottom. Not even sure it would fit in the dedicated fridge space that is here. Most of them are on the larger side. When I last bought a fridge I couldn't buy the ones I really wanted because the space wasn't big enough. I did manage to get the one with the ice maker and tap on front, because I always wanted one..but that component isn't necessary in my next fridge. What features do you want in your next fridge?

I want the light to come on when I open the door. This one has a broken switch. When I contacted the office the day I moved in, they said they wouldn't get me a new fridge for a broken switch. I need to turn on the kitchen light to see what I have in the fridge. I'm glad your mother is getting a new fridge.

It probably would have been cheaper just to get the old one fixed..but she must have really wanted a new one.

The water and ice (crushed or cubed) dispensers are handy. Those were features in the fridge that our son and his wife choose when we bought them their new kitchen appliances last year. They also opted for the freezer on the bottom, the French doors on the top and a drawer in between. The drawer is for the twin's foods-fresh fruits and things that they like. Our very first fridge lasted us over 20 years, and when we went to replace it, the salesperson, who could tell we hadn't been appliance shopping in a long time, asked us how long we had our current kitchen appliances. We both looked at him and said when we were married over 20 years ago, he chuckled and said well anything you buy now will not last that long. We immediately looked at something that we wanted short term. We liked what we had but sold it with the house when we sold it 7 years ago. I do prefer the crinkled surface, so it doesn't show the smudges and prints.

Funny story about the one I have now. I bought this I don't know the exact year but it 2009 or 2010..when it was brand new it broke like 2 or 3 times. I practically had Whirlpool on speed dial. The last person who worked on it, replaced the control board and it has been awesome every since. I wouldn't get this brand again though.

@Juliaacv I think this one was built in Mexico..with care less workmanship.

@snowy22315 We have that brand, and we aren't overly impressed. But people tell you that even with different labels they are built at the same place, so I don't know anymore.

The more simple the better to me. I don’t need or want anything fancy, although like you, having the freezer on the bottom instead would be nice.

@snowy22315 A lot of people like those fridges that go transparent with the touch of a finger; not me!

@AmbiePam I think a smart fridge that told you what items you needed to buy would be neat,

I don't necessarily need something high end, but something different like the freezer on the bottom would be cool, and the ice maker I have gotten spoiled by.

we haven't bough one in a good while but when we did, we bought the kind with water and ice on the outside. Oh my goodness, best move ever. The kids drink so much more water than they used to. It really is so handy and I definitely want that feature in my next one too. I don't think I ever want to be without that feature again.

I don't care as much about that as having a bottom freezer.

@snowy22315 i guess I'm not as worried about a bottom freezer because I have a large chest freezer. don't really use the one above the frig except for ice cream, which I shouldn't have.

It absolutely must have water and ice. My husband uses a ton of ice in a week...and I like the cold, filtered water. Have a good weekend.

I would like the French door style, freezer on bottom. I have room for it. I never have wanted ice and water in the door. I have always lived places with too many minerals in the water.

We're happy with this one. The freezer is at the bottom and it has an ice-maker and tap. We're so close to shops we don't really need extra freezer space although many here have a second fridge or freezer in their garage.
