Do you make popcorn from scratch?

I don't do it too often, although I probably should..is to put popcorn in a paper bag with a little bit of salt and oil and pop it in the microwave. It is far healthier than the commercial microwave stuff..and a bag of kernels last a very long time. It is probably like 5 cents or less per serving. You can also make kettle corn by adding a bit of sugar to it if that is your preference..or different spices can be added as well. How do you make your popcorn?

One guy here used to bring a popcorn maker to the movies each Tuesday and pop corn for anyone who wanted it, which was very good of him. For some reason, I don't like it and don't like the smell.

We have one of those air poppers which don't require any oil. You throw seeds in it and it swirls around in heat til it pops. We can eat it plain, but sometimes we'll melt some butter and drizzle it on.

I usually just buy Skinny Pop on occasion. Have you had it? It’s bare bones popcorn, but somehow, still really good. But I don’t eat popcorn much anymore anyway due to eating it consistently for a few months. It’s such a healthy snack (I don’t put anything on it) that I ate it too often not to get sick of it.

I used to just put popcorn in an oily pan, shut the lid tight and turned the stove burner on high. Often I sprinkled nutritional yeast on and for hubby, cayenne pepper. Last night I grabbed a bag of microwave popcorn- we have a mic up in our bedroom.

I don't think I have ever tried nutritional yeast I guess it is not the same as Brewers yeast. What kind of flavor does it impart?

@snowy22315 Nutritional yeast is another name for brewer's yeast. It gives a cheesy taste.

Yes. I make popcorn from scratch by buying raw popcorn kernels at the supermarket and popping them in a pot on the stove. I just add salt. Sometimes I don't even add anything. If I feel like it I also make buttered popcorn or caramelized popcorn or if I have cheese powder then, cheese popcorn it is. But most often, just the plain no flavor, no anything.

@pitsipeahie I prefer the microwave bags, but only when I can get the 100 calorie ones. The store I go to doesn't usually have them.

My mother used to make popcorn on the stovetop back in the day. She just used a heavy pot and some oil. I have never done that though.

@snowy22315 That's how I exactly make my popcorn! I don't have those fancy popcorn makers and I seldom buy those microwavable popcorns.

I have a air popcorn popper and that is how I make my popcorn. I let it cool and let the melted butter cool and add it to the popcorn. The popcorn is so cool that way.

I like the paper bag method if I am not eating the microwave popcorn in a commercial bag

As a child, I have memories of popping popcorn in a pop corn popper that we had. Now, I usually buy popcorn in the microwave bag.

@snowy22315 the popcorn popper we had had a clear cover and clear walls and it was fun watching the kernels pop.

Yes. I don't eat it often, but I add oil and salt. I wouldn't say I like the one that can be bought.

Movie popcorn is the best. There is a store here that sells popcorn that tastes just like the corn they have in the movies for a lot less monez. It is popped in coconut oil.
