Short story: A student finally accepts God into his life

Eddy Summerfield was a college student, and he was rather proud of his intellect, which had gotten him top marks in his exams, up until now.
Then, he met a chaplain at his University, who told him that he was far more than his just being his intellect, and in fact, his heart was more important than which his intellect would ever be.
If we want to accept God into our life, it is our heart that must do this for us, not our mind, the pastor told him.
We can only move forwards in our life, in the right way, and in the right direction, when we have embraced a connection to God, with our hearts, he was told.
Eddy scoffed at this.
So far, in his life, he had no need for any God in it, he had thought to himself. For after all, it is and always will be always just up to myself, and to the decisions that my mind makes for me, which will shape both me, and my life.
He ignored what the pastor had said.
Then, one day, the pastor caught up with him again, in the cafeteria of his University.
He sat down next to Eddy, and he told him, that living without God, is living in the dark.
We need to switch on God's light within ourselves by reaching out to that switch, which exists in our heart, and choose God in our life, by switching that switch on.
Our mind will always live in its own darkness otherwise, fooled into thinking that it is making its own light, which it never can do.
All light comes into us from God, and from his love for us, the pastor told Eddy. There is no light outside of God's light. We need to allow God to relight the wick of our own candle too, which was already alight when we were born, but which sometimes we can allow our mind to temporarily blow it out.
The next day, Eddy was on his bus travelling again to his classes at his University, when he heard a song playing on someone's mobile phone, not far from him, and of which he could hear some of the words.
The song said in part:
"Lift yourself to God, but not with your own efforts alone, let God lift you to where you can be, as you are too heavy to lift yourself alone."
Eddy thought about this, and so then he decided to allow God into his life, as being a big lad, he saw the humour of him trying to lift his own 125 kilo frame up much by himself.
God can be found in many ways, and this was the way that Eddy found God.
He was glad that he did, as he felt a lot lighter with the light of God in him, and illuminating his life for him too.

Without the light of God, there will always be elements of darkness in our life.
We all need the light of God in our lives.

Yes, we should never turn our back on God, but allow him to work his miracles in our lives, as we cooperate, and work within his love, and guidance too.

That was good that you remembered God in your school days.
I neglected God, back then, and my school days were affected, and I ended up bombing out of University.
It took me a long time to find my feet again after that. I eventually had to accept God back into my life again, to get myself back on track again.

Yes, relating to God through humour, is a great way to relate to him. I would say he sits back and chuckles at our antics, sometimes too.

A turning back to God--our Creator and Giver of life--is what every one of us must see and do while we still have life here on earth.
Let's continue being the Light in this dark world that they may see God and His plan of redemption for all.

Yes, I feel that God's plan is for everyone to eventually move into the light, and be redeemed, so that, hopefully, no souls will be lost, as in God's plan, he never planned for failure, for any soul, at all.

Even Jesus Christ said that he was the tree, and we his branches, which implies that he, and God, are the Universal soul, of which we are all just a part of too.
If we cut ourselves off from God, to try to operate on our own, we miss out on receiving the real vitality, love, and sustenance, from God, to live a full life, on his tree, bearing fruit for God, instead of bearing no fruit, and just being a withered branch on his tree, needing to be eventually pruned off, if God sees that as necessary.

@Shiva49 Yes, to see reality, as it is; we need to accept that reality into our lives though, which is easier said than done, especially to those closed-minded types, who seldom open their minds to much at all that could expand them in their view of realer reality.

@innertalks To remain connected with our source makes all the difference between a meaningful life and drifting and wasting away all our lives.
We need a life of substance that comes only with an awareness to appreciate the reality of our being here.
