Found Money for Keeps

I was reading back through an old post where someone had mentioned they had found $100 while they were Swiffering. Is that even a word? I guess it can be.
In any event, it reminded me of when I did pest control some years back. My route was a commercial one, and I had a lot of taverns and bars on my route that I did. I can't tell you how much loose change I found under those bars, and because it was just "found money," whether it was right or wrong, it just went into my pocket.
Heck, once I found a $20 bill under the bar, and when I found that I made sure to take that to the manager before I was done with the service. He said thank you and put it in HIS pocket, so I knew what that meant and said to myself, "If that ever happens again, it's mine."
I filled jars with coins from that. I called it a "tip." lol

I bartended at a crazy popular bar when I was in college, I mean every night it was packed to standing room only. At the end of every night, we all had to pitch in to help clean up the place, and you wouldn't believe how much money we found on the floor. I mean, it was a LOT of money. We would total it all up and split it between everyone working that night. We considered it part of our "tips."

I actually knew what you meant when you said "swiffering".
I can't say that I've ever found a lot of money but I am that person who will pick up change (even pennies) if I see them on the ground.

@porwest now that everyone rarely carries money it's rare to find loose change but I still look.

@Marilynda1225 I still tend to find quite a lot of it. Surprising how much sometimes. I can't tell you how often I get free quarters from abandoned shopping carts at Aldi and Ruler also.

People used to say "xerox" this or that so I guess swiffering is the same thing where a brand becomes a widely used word.
When our contractor was taking apart our old living room couch he found $40. He could've kept it for himself but he gave the money to me, letting me know where he found it. I was shocked. Not that he gave me the money but that somehow $40 was in our couch.

@porwest yeah. If you find money in someone’s house you gotta give it back.

@porwest I blame my parents for making me go to a Catholic elementary school. hahaha though I also chose to go to a Catholic university.
I wouldn't think much of keeping $20 but the hundreds in my dream? I wouldn't have been able to keep that.

It’s a word for the same reason Kleenex is a word.
