Busy Little Squirrel

There is a little squirrel who lives near here. He has been running back and forth past our glass doors all day. He is a very busy soul. I can't help but wonder if his nest or house got damaged in the tropical storm. Maybe he is repairing his place. I think he will be ready for a nap soon. What animals do you see when you peek out your window or sit in your yard? Have any surprised you?

We too have a squirrel who lives in the huge neem tree in front of our house. She comes down only when street dogs are not around.Dogs and a squirrel are the only animals who are seen near my house. However two kms from here you can spot hyaenas and sometimes foxes near a graveyard.

That is a smart squirrel. I have seen foxes but never a hyaena. I am not familiar with neem trees.

@Shivram59 I have seen videos of them. They look like dreadful creatures. I remember once that you said you walked to the jungle and saw a hyaena eating a goat. I thought wow, just wow!

@akalinus Yes;I see them often.Once I had seen a hyaena rushing from a bush to grab a goat. Some farmers passing from there ran and saved the goat.Hyaenas in small villages are said to have killed little kids.I have seen a video of hynaeas chasing a tiger and killing it.

Lots of squirrels, a chipmunk, deer tracks, haven't seen turkeys out our window but saw a BUNCH of them in someone's front yard a few months ago. I've only seen a fox once. Have a good evening.

We had deers where I used to live out in the country. Wild turkeys were running around. Chipmunks stole our dog's food and squirrels raided our pinecones that were supposed to add scent to the wood stove. I loved living in the woods. I miss it. Do you like living in the country?

@akalinus I love it here. We have 1.25 acres and a nursery on one side. No close neighbors but we still have a Walmart Supercenter and a lot of fast food places. Other restaurants within a short drive.

i hardly ever see small birds here. I don't know where they are hiding. I see a lot of big birds like herons, egrets, or storks. Some live around the shore.

I guess it could help if they need a cable cut or something. Squirrels love to destroy wiring and other stuff you need. Maybe they can give your maintenance guys instructions on how to do things. Or they can just be cute and squirrely.

@JudyEv I remember you showed pictures of kangaroos and tried to keep them out of your yard. Do you miss the old place?Do you like the suburb?

@akalinus We've left that place and now live in a new suburb where there aren't even many birds yet.

That must be awesome. When you see bats, remember that they eat a lot of flying insects, especially mosquitos. Thank them for that!

I sometimes see squirrels, but they are a good ways away. I see them mostly traveling on our long road.

@popciclecold Are there oak trees there? I think they prefer living in oaks or maybe just eating the acorns. Do you want squirrels living closer to you?

They don't live close to you? I think they pick places that they like.

Let's see there has been a squirrel that used to come every day, I also met up with a tree frog, and an opossum comes at night for leftovers,

I did not see what he was carrying if anything. I only saw him running back and forth many times. I was writing on myLot and searching for submission calls. We were each busy doing our own things.

We have birds, squirrels and rabbits mostly. At times we see groundhogs, skunks (smelled one last night ) and opossums.

You have a good variety of animals living near you. I hate the smell of the skunk. But the rest of the wild kingdom is great.

I have never seen a mongoose in real life. How exciting that must be. I did read the story of "Riki Tiki Tavi," long ago and far away. It was written by Rudyard Kipling.

For some reason, this year we have an unreal amount of bunnies. Everywhere! They are eating flowers, gardens, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love wildlife and bunnies are fine, but I do value my garden!

I love bunnies too. There used to be a lot in the park where I lived. I used to watch them when the sun was setting. There was a field across from my house. I saw a lot of bunnies chasing each other and having a merry old time. Maybe you could use something like chicken wire to keep them out. Or put thin posts in the ground and hang pallets over them for a fence.

@akalinus I have the tomatoes in tomato cages with screens, now. This is the first year the bunnies ate everything in sight...we just never really saw any bunnies around here. Now there are dozens!
