Got My Blood Lab Results Today… Not the Best News

Just got my blood lab results back, and it turns out I have high cholesterol and high uric acid. On top of that, my urinalysis shows many mucus threads. Definitely not what I was hoping for! Looks like it’s time to make some changes. I’m going to consult a doctor next week, but in the meantime, has anyone else dealt with similar issues? Any tips on food or lifestyle changes that actually helped you manage it or has worked for you? slight bruising on the extraction site

Sorry to hear the news wasn't as good as you had hoped. But on the bright side, it could have been worse. High cholesterol and high uric acid are things that can be treated with simple diet changes and medication. I have not had issues with either, but I have to keep watching my glucose levels because I am pre-diabetic.

@pitsipeahie My glucose levels have been pretty steady for over a decade (pre-diabetic, but not getting worse). My doctor put me on several different medications to try and bring my glucose levels back to safer levels, but none of them worked. My levels stayed the same even on the medications. So he took me off, and my numbers are still at the same level they were. So at this point I just monitor them by getting lab work done every 6 months.

@moffittjc Sounds like you've got a good handle on it. Monitoring every 6 months and staying steady is a win in itself! On my side, I'd be scheduling a doctor's appointment hopefully next week. I need to show my lab results. I just found out also that my TSH levels are high, so I really need to see an endocrinologist-internist for this.

Thanks for the support. It's a good reminder that things could always be worse. Keeping an eye on glucose is so important—hope you're managing well with that.

almost every urinalysis test i took, i did have some mucus and i think that's normal for us women; when we have periods or have some hormonal issues. and high colesterol isn't harmless but i had it once although i lead a healthy lifestyle; you just have to eat better, walk more and things will be okay. don't stress too much.

A small amount is okay but mine is many. And I also found out later my TSH (Thyroid Secreting Hormone) is high. Thanks for the reassurance. Trying not to stress too much! Hopefully next week I'd be able to schedule an appointment with my doctor and I'll try my best to work on my diet and get more active.

I have high cholesterol. I didn’t eat a high cholesterol diet at all, but my doctor said as we age our metabolism changes. He said to get my heart rate up, and he also put me on medication, and over the counter Niacin. It’s perfect now.

That’s encouraging to hear! I’ll definitely be more mindful of my activity and consider talking to my doctor about Niacin. Glad to know it’s working out for you.

I'm no health expert but I know that cherry juice is useful for dealing with uric acid issues.
