I have many big oak trees around here. Most years they don't drop acorns,However, this year There are already 39 or so on the ground. Deer really like these I remember one warmish October night it sounded like glass breaking in the driveway It was the deer walking on the acorns.

Are acorns good for anything? I mean, can you eat them? (Don't laugh at me!)

In old time days people ate acorn soup. Nowadays they are mostly used for decoration, I didn't know about the flour.

Our Native Americans all ate acorns. I talked to a homesteader a few years ago (friend of a friend, kind of) he collected them and made acorn flour. They have to be processed to leach the tannins out of them. I haven't tasted them, but evidently people actually do eat them in some places.

Maybe it's going to be a bad winter. Scientists say it is for our area (NE Ohio). Our Pomeranians used to eat the acorns. We always worried about that. Have a good day.

@snowy22315 We think maybe they were hungry, although they were both at a good weight.

It reminds me of living out in the woods among the oak trees towards October/November. The acorns will drop and rattle down the metal roofs with a bangity bang bang that is a horrible noise and it would go on all night long. The deer would come along and gobble up the acorns like popcorn!!! I miss that noise living in town now. There were so many of the critters out in the woods that were fun to listen to....

The old wives tale I grew up with is that an abundance of acorns means it will be a severe winter.

I remember when our oak trees would drop the acorns on our metal roof ping bang boom they would hit so hard you'd think they'd put a hole in it I'm SO GLAD they are all gone after we had them cut down this year.

@snowy22315 yeah cause when they hit the roof it's a HARD hit just be careful cause if you step on them wrong they can make you fall too.
