chirp!!!

I've had a not so boring start to this Saturday. A necessary evil refused to shut up. We have four smoke alarms in my downstairs plus a carbon monoxide detector. I came downstairs this morning and heard that ugly high pitched chirp. Moxe pup tucked her tail between her legs and demanded to be held. I remembered a guy on Nextdoor saying he was looking for handyman jobs. I messaged him then went to the store and bought some 9 volt batteries. The guy finally showed up at 10. I asked him to disable three of the alarms and leave the one in the kitchen cause it was lowest. BUT two are hard wired. At least the noise has quit and Moxe is napping off her horrid morning. Never mind my leaner pocketbook.

Those are so high pitched, it hurts the ears but they are important so guess we live with the noise. I remember my son traded his out for one that talked. His fireplace had a backup from the pellets we bought and it began yelling, "warning. Carbon Monoxide!" over and over. I woke and he slept through it until I got him up. Back to the high pitch alarms we went.

@noni1959 Fascinating. I like the talking over the screech but for sure that could be creepy quickly.

@noni1959 I bet it was. Sometimes my husband- has a hearing issue- tells me that to him our portable A/C sounds like it is saying words.

No reason to check them for workability then, huh? I feel bad for the animals. That loud burst of sound must really have hurt their ears. Poor Moxe pup.

@celticeagle Moxe kept trying to get on my lap. Beau Teak kitty was already sitting with me so Moxe got some slaps for her effort.

This is how those things often go. My old ones were hardwired. Yuck.

Glad you got it all sorted out, I hate when that happens but then I only have one smoke decector for my little apartment but when it needs a change it sounds like the noise is bouncing off the walls here in such a small space, Terrifies the cats always,

In Australia, households are encouraged to change batteries in smoke alarms on April Fool's Day. They have a terrible pitch when they go off.

Those wired in ones are a pain, when one goes off they all do.

Well at least they are working I guess. Ours will chirp from time to time, but nothing like it's been before.

I hate that sound. Our ceilings are not that high, I can replace the battery with a step stool.
