Doctor Appointment Update - 8/26/24

Hello everyone, how are you doing? I had my appointment with my endocrinologist this morning. I was really worried about how it would go, as usual. As usual, it wasn't as bad as I figured it would be. Although; my weight was up as well as my blood pressure. My A1c did go down to 6.5. That would be great, except it is down because of too many lows (according to my CGM). He'd rather it be closer to 7 I believe, if it meant not many lows. I do get that lows are really bad, but highs are bad as well. I am waiting on the rest of the test results, so will update on that later on. The doctor did want to give some kinds of meds for the blood pressure, but he is looking for some safe ones for pregnancy; since I still hope to be as soon as possible. What do you think about all of this? Photo is mine - me a couple years ago

I think it is best to seek advice from a doctor. He is right that we cannot take any meds especially if a woman is preggy. The first trimester is quite a crucial stage.

I'm glad it wasn't as bad as you figured it would be.

@MommyOfEli2013 Why is it bad that your A1c is better? I'm glad your cholesterol is good.

@just4him Because it is only 6.5 because of all the lows I have had. According to my CGM anyways, I go low in the night a lot. Otherwise it would be great news. He wants me closer to 7. I don't want to be though

Well it is bad that my A1c was better, but only because I had too many lows. My other bloodwork looked pretty good. Figured my cholesterol would be bad after stopping the meds but they mostly fine.

You definitely don’t want high blood pressure when you’re pregnant. I’m glad the doctor is looking for something that can be taken during that time.

@MommyOfEli2013 Doctors should know by now patients are going to do what they want, so the doctor might as well get on board and help.

Well I have dealt with it pretty good with meds over the years. Even though I was originally on it to protect my kidneys from a different medicine. But hopefully he can find something safe...if there is! He says he is going to to talk to my regular doc and ask what he thinks. That doc didn't want me to try to get pregnant ever again, so he might not help

@AmbiePam Well some might think that if the patient is not going to listen, why help?

Lows are just as bad, if not sometimes worse then highs. Idealy you want a good valance and avoid both. However, lows are easier to correct then highs. I hope you get pregnant soon. I know yu've been wanting a second biological child.

Oh yes, I know...2 times lows sent me to the ER because my sugar was so low that the monitor just read "LOW". But I also went once because my blood sugar was over 400 and I was in DKA. Usually when you correct a low you end up with a high! I hope I do too, but I am not sure if I even can. I really hope so and that it happens this month but we'll see. I am almost to the 2 week waiting period.

@MommyOfEli2013 Yeah, that can happen. It's why you are supposed to correct it slowly and check often. Either way I wish you luck on your journey.

@kaylachan I don't know how to correct it slowly

I wish you all the best and I hope that it will work out for you, My thoughts are whatever meds the doctor gives you still do a thorough research online just to be sure they won't affect anything,

Well I trust this doctor since he decided to do the research on it and not just hand me a prescription right away. I will look into it though

I'm glad the doctor is being cautious with prescribing meds for you. I hope you have a good day.
