Double Trouble

When I got up yesterday, I had phone trouble. I finally just got it going when the power went out. A fierce storm knocked out a power pole and it had to be replaced. No lights, no TV or internet. The grid was out in a large section of the Tampa Bay Area. You never know how much you need technology and electricity until you suddenly don't have it. What do you do when you suddenly lose your lights and internet? How dark does it get at your place?

It can be awful. The last time power and internet went was at the end of June when hurricane Beryl passed by.

Some of those hurricanes can be terrible. How long were your power and internet off? Ours was back on when I woke up this morning. This storm was not a hurricane, just a rainstorm without much wind. When the power went off, it kept flashing on and off until my friend shut the breakers off. We were afraid it would ruin something. Apparently a pole was damaged and the wires were swinging back and forth and the lights did too. iI don't know if a car hit the pole,or what.

@akalinus lt wasn't too bad in my area. I am on the North of the island and the storm passed off the South coast. Some residents there are still without power. I had no power for a week, no internet for 2 days, no television for 2 weeks.. and more storms are expected in September through to November.

@Kandae11 Losing power and the internet is tough in today's world. Everything is so ready to erupt that I wonder if I am missing major news happening. I'm glad the storm was not too bad for you.

Luckily, my phone has a light, and even in thunderstorms I’ve been able to get online through my smartphone. I usually have four power banks charged too, so I don’t have to worry about the battery being run down. Plus, I have a lot of flashlights to combat just how dark it can get. But I hate when it all happens at night.

The power went off during the afternoon. It was out all night, I think. When I woke up, it was back on.

I remember someone wondering why the hurricane was not affecting Daytona Beach. You seem to be blessed in your corner of the world. I hope it stays that way for you.

@akalinus yes, we are lucky and I have a landmark to remind me of the safety, When I arrived here seven years ago an apartment complex stood across the street and it is still standing today in front of the Halifax River,

A couple of years ago we had a standby generator installed. It automatically kicks on when the power goes out. Of course there's nothing that can be done when the TV/phone and internet go out. Have a good day.

It is hard to go without a phone. It holds our world, our contacts, maybe our destiny is in there somewhere too.

@LindaOHio That's true. You can use data until the wifi comes back.

Sometimes I feel we have become slaves of technology. My father tells me of the days when there was no electricity in our town.People would do all their works in the light of lamps. They had to walk to distant places. They would plough their fields with the help of bulls and burn dry pieces of wood to cook their food. But they were stronger then.Their eyes were sharper. They were able to adjust themselves with changing weather. When he tells me all this;I feel we were better off without advanced technology.

I sometimes lived like that as a child. We often had no electricity and no phone. Our only link to the world was the radio. We had no idea what was happening in the world most of the time. We used lanterns or candles for light. We had an outhouse and got our water from a spring. It was a simpler time, perhaps a better time.

@akalinus As my father tells me;there were not radio in our town that was no more than a very small village at that time. When I was 20;we bought our first TV. There were many wells in our village. We had to draw potable water from our nearest well.

Cry, We lose power and we lose internet but never at same time and for never long. If you knew how much we paid you would cry to. I feel your pain, but your place is fine right? We can handle the jerks we cannot handle storms that come out of no where.

It is expensive to live, use technology, and do anything. It is fine now, I don't appreciate the electricity going out more than I would like.

That is definitely not a great start for your day. I had faced a similar issue while I stayed at hilton . There was total power loss from morning 7 till evening 5 . No light , no tv and no internet . It was not very dark but it was like evening darkness. There was nothing much to do and I stayed back in the hotel since there was nothing else to do for the day. It was such a boring day and well I did a few calls but did exhaust the phone battery. Just lied on the bed for sometime and just relaxed. It was just waste of time.

We are used to our mind going a mile a minute. Boredom hurts your brain because there is nothing to do and it lasts for a long time. Doing calls was good. At least, you talked to someone.
