Day 224 – Obedience Judges 2:1 Then the Malak of JEHOVAH came up from Gilgal to Bochim and said, “I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you. 2 you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you will tear down their altars.’ However, you did not obey My voice. Why did you do this? 3 Therefore, I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they will be thorns in your side, and their elohiym will be a snare to you.’” 4 It happened, when the Malak of JEHOVAH spoke these words to the children of Israel, that the people lifted their voices and wept. 5 Then they called the name of that place Bochim; and sacrificed there to JEHOVAH. 6 When Joshua had dismissed the people, the children of Israel went each to his own inheritance to possess the land. 7 The people served JEHOVAH throughout the days of Joshua, and the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who saw the great works of JEHOVAH which He did for Israel. 8 Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of JEHOVAH, died when he was one hundred and ten years old. 9 They buried him within the border of his inheritance at Timnath Heres, in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash. 10 When that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know JEHOVAH nor the work which He had done for Israel. 11 Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of JEHOVAH and served the Baals; 12 and forsook JEHOVAH Elohiym of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and followed other elohiym from among the elohiym of the people who were around them, and they bowed down to them; and provoked JEHOVAH to anger. 13 They forsook JEHOVAH and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. 14 JEHOVAH’S anger of was hot against Israel. He delivered them into the hands of plunderers who despoiled them; and sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went out, the hand of JEHOVAH was against them for calamity, as JEHOVAH had said, and as JEHOVAH had sworn to them. They were greatly distressed. 16 Nevertheless, JEHOVAH raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges, but played the harlot with other elohiym, and bowed down to them. They turned from the way in which their fathers walked, in obeying the commandments of JEHOVAH; they did not do so. 18 When JEHOVAH raised up judges for them, JEHOVAH was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies throughout the days of the judge; for JEHOVAH was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them. 19 It happened, when the judge died, they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, by following other elohiym, to serve them and bow down to them. They did not stop their doings nor their stubborn way. 20 Then the anger of JEHOVAH was hot against Israel; and He said, “Because this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not heeded My voice, 21 I also will no longer drive out before them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died, 22 so that through them I may test Israel, whether they will keep the ways of JEHOVAH, to walk in them as their fathers kept them, or not.” 23 Therefore, JEHOVAH left those nations, without driving them out immediately; nor did He deliver them into the hand of Joshua. God’s names: Malak – Messenger, Pre-incarnate Christ JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Supreme God Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Holy Righteous Merciful As parents, you expect obedience from your children. As employers, you expect obedience from your employees. Your government expects obedience from you. Obedience is the key to living a peaceful life. Israel didn’t obey Elohiym in driving out the inhabitants of the land. Not only did they disobey Elohiym by not destroying them, but they also followed their elohiym, thus ensnaring themselves and making themselves strangers to Elohiym. The Malak of JEHOVAH, came with accusations to His people when Joshua and the leaders with him died, showing them how He brought them out of Egypt and led them through the wilderness to have them disobey Him when they conquered the land. With their disobedience, JEHOVAH gave them into the hands of their enemies to serve them instead of serving Him. However, JEHOVAH showed them mercy when He gave them judges to lead them and bring them back into obedience to Him. It didn’t last. When the judge died, the people disobeyed Elohiym and followed the elohiym of the nations around them. How often does JEHOVAH tell you to do something and you ignore it? When was the last time you opened your Bible to read and study it so you would know JEHOVAH’S love for you? When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you promised to obey Him. You committed your life in service to Him. Does your life show an attitude of obedience, or do people see you as an unbeliever who follows your own way without regard to what Yeshuwa desires from you? Only when you live your life in total obedience to JEHOVAH and Yeshuwa, will you know a peaceful life. Elohiym will not give you into the hands of your enemies to test your loyalty to Him. What does your life look like? Do you see success and chaos chasing each other as Israel did when they obeyed their judges until they died then did what they wanted without regard to Elohiym until the next judge? You need to renew your commitment to Elohiym. Joshua had told Israel to choose whom they would serve. Joshua 24:14 “Now, therefore, fear JEHOVAH, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the elohiym which your fathers served on the other side of the flood and in Egypt. Serve JEHOVAH! 15 If it seems evil to you to serve JEHOVAH, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the elohiym which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, or the elohiym of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. As for me and my house, we will serve JEHOVAH.” Many of you have that verse on a plaque somewhere in your home. You know and can quote the Scripture, but does it ring true in your life? If not, return to JEHOVAH. Let Him guide you through life. Then you will see peace instead of chaos throughout your life and people won’t question whether you belong to Elohiym or not. They will know. Let’s pray: Father, let my life shine for You in everything I do. Let Your Word instruct me in the way I should live so people will know I belong to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. In many instances all members of a household are not in one accord, making it a bit harder for those who desire to follow Christ's teachings...
