Thunder over Paris.

Paris is wonderful in the rain, and it’s especially wonderful tonight with a thunderstorm clearing off the mugginess of a hot, stuffy day. The day was dry for our long walk around the Parc de Vincennes with its happiness of picnickers and boaters. We saw one couple, bride and groom, taking to the water in Lac Daumesnil in a row boat - how risky was that? there she was in her big frock looking like a meringue floating on the murky waters and it would have taken only one slip of the groom’s oar and every last scrap of dignity would have had to be fished out. But he had a steady hand and disaster was avoided. The Picasso museum was worth a visit even just for the cafe on the roof, but no way would I be tempted to ask out any of the ladies he painted. My niece used to work there. Dinner was at a table beside the canal again and the rain had the decency to hold back till we’d finished. And now the thunder, and a comprehensive lashing by cold rain. Now I’ll be able to sleep right.
