My favorite cat is very sick

Today I am feeling very anxious because one of my cats is sick. Yesterday he was very playful, and active, he ate like normal. He even stole food from the garbage in the kitchen. Of course, I stopped him. Today he was feeling awful and he didn't eat. In the morning he was active and after that, he was very lethargic. When I checked his temperature I noticed that he had a fever. He is very hot to touch and the thermometer showed 39.9 degrees C. I am not sure if this is a fever or not because I am not a vet. But my parents don't have money and I have to loan money again for the vet. Saving money for emergencies is very useful. My mom took him to the vet because he felt so bad. Now I am very worried. Maybe he has something serious. The other cats noticed that something was wrong with him. I have three cats and only one is sick. Today he had such a sad look, he only wanted to hide. My other cat had the same problem a few years ago. He had a fever, the vet never knew why this happened. He had tests done, leukemia tests. All were negative. I hope we didn't bring a virus from those outdoor cats. Outside we have a stray cat and we feed her. She has kittens, but they seem healthy. I hope I can accept the good or bad news.
