Lots is being spoken about this disease here in India. Those who have had chicken pox are prone to get this disease specially if they are above 50 years of age. There is a vaccine available to ward off this disease. I have had shingles - also known as herpes zosteer a few years ago but there is no guarantee that I will not get it again. What's up where you live?

When I was a child, I was inflicted with chicken pox. For shingles, I have not experienced it.

@allknowing I heard about it. It is a good thing that my mom did not have it when she was still alive.

I had herpes zosteer in the year 2014, I was particularly stressed and it happened. Also those who get the vaccine are not sure not to get it.

You are right. There is no guarantee that vaccines will help eradicate it.

@allknowing yes, it is painful because the nerve is the one being attacked by the virus

Here they say one gets it later in life. Getting it on your eyes must have been awful. Hope there is no permanent damage. I had it on my left thigh.

I have had the vaccine. It requires two doses. At first I was skeptical then someone told me that in addition to being very painful it can infect your heart. So I got the vaccines.

You have to take two doses with a six month gap and here they are very expensive.
