Awareness Days

Do you any of you observe awareness days? Or maybe months (such as October being Breast Cancer Awareness month)? Today, September 9th is Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Awareness Day, and people are told to wear red shoes and post them on Facebook or other social media sites to show support for those affected (like my adopted nephew, Hudson). The picture is the one my sister posted of her, and my nieces red shoes. I posted a picture of my red shoes online too, even though my red shoes were definitely not the typical kind (they were the only ones I had). Do you guys observe or honor specific days or months? I don’t know about other places, but the United States goes heavy on Breast Cancer Awareness month. In recent years, at least in sports, “Movember” has been a heavy movement. Men grow mustaches in November (thus Movember) to raise awareness of men’s health issues (mainly male specific cancers). This raises a lot of money for those issues. Some people may say, oh, there is a day for everything. To that I say, so what? Anyone have examples to share?

February is heart month, I believe. I went so far as to schedule an elective heart health test that insurance does not pay for, because I was told it was a good diagnostic. Also wear red in Feb for heart.

I thought February was some kind of heart awareness. That’s an excellent cause.

I do not do the social media fb thing, so I am probably missing alot of those days. I am open to those days and recognize the importance of them. I love their picture, it almost looks like their feet make a smile.

We have those days in Europe and I recognize that those days are important to inform people about of the important problems of our society. I know that wearing red shoes in Italy (as well several European countries) red shoes have become the symbol against femicide and violence against women.

Love their red shoes ! I did more to wear my support items when it was encouraged by the schools . . . we were into it when the kids were in elementary school. I'm all for those national food days when some restaurants/shops have free food giveaways (like ice cream!) .

I do know about Hispanic month as well as Black History Month since it is broadcast on television or on social media. The other dates mentioned only I learn about from social media sites.
