Debbie Downer

Happy Tuesday everyone! It's a beautiful sunny day here today. Yes, I'm late getting here today. I had just poured my coffee, opened the laptop and was ready to chat when my phone rang. It was my friend so naturally I answered. What a mistake. All she did was complain and I had a headache by the time we hung up. She complained about everything under the sun and I've noticed that the older she's getting the more she complains. I used to enjoy our conversations and we've been friends for over 30 years. I can't help but wonder if she's turning into a cranky old lady. Her husband is probably glad he's partially deaf

I’m sorry, Marilyn! I made a note when my my maternal grandmother turned into mostly a complainer, to watch myself as I got older. I mean, a person doesn’t have to be that old when they start to mostly complain. So I have to watch myself now. Hopefully, your day gets better.

I guess getting older comes with all sorts of complaints and I try to keep mine to a minimum especially to my daughter. When my mom got elderly and lived with me she made life difficult with her complaints when half the things she complained about either couldn't be changed or were beyond the realm of reasoning.

You made me laugh. I tell everyone what's going on in my life; but I rarely "complain". I dislike people that make complaining a career. I'm sorry your friend has become a complainer. Maybe she needs attention. Have a good day.

With everything you have going on I would be shouting to the rooftops about the frustrations. Yet, you always sound positive and not whining about it all. My friend either just likes to complain now or something medical might be causing all her complaints.

We all complain but I'm beginning to think there's more to it with my friend. She never used to be like this

She probably just needs an outlet and you just happened to be it.

She knows I'll listen but it's getting to a point where she does nothing but complain.

@Marilynda1225 Try to explain to her, that you want to help, but the constant complaining is starting to get to you.

I'm sorry that your day began with a negative conversation. I felt like that for a bit today too though. We had a virtual meeting at work and I complained a couple of times.

I'm sure you're not a constant complainer and we all have days when we have a lot to grip about. This has been an ongoing thing with my friend and since she ne er used to be like this I'm starting to think k it might be something else (maybe medical)

Aww sorry she was so cranky, I see no reason to get other people down if you are not feeling right yourself, As they say I sure hope she gets her act together,

She's just turning into a cranky old lady which is sad. I don't know why she lets the things bother her that she does when half of it doesn't even affect her life in any way. We all have legitimate complaints but this goes beyond that. I'm wondering if maybe it's a medical issue that she's unaware of.

I've noticed that about some people that I know. It's easier to complain about the negative things in life rather than take action to actually do something about them. And some folks tend to repeat the same ol' things they complain about.

Everyone has legitimate complains and needs someone to vent to. But, my friend carries on about things that don't even affect her life in any way.

Next time I'll let it go to voicemail and leave a message. If she's not in a good mood I won't call back

I liked Amber's reply. It reminds of the shows Grumpy Old Men. I think there was a Grumpy Old Women too.

I guess some people just turn into being grouchy and negative when they get older. I certainly don't want to and hope and pray that I can smile and laugh through my old age.

@Marilynda1225 People have the choice really, don't they? They can let things get them down or they can rise above it all.

Some people get grumpy as they get old, I hope that won't be my case because I can't stand people that are always complaining.

I am so sorry you had to deal with that call. I used to be a major debbie downer thinking negatively. Then my peer started to talk to me about finding the positives in everything I experience. Positive thinking (and my peer's advice) have helped me so much in my life and made me happier. Have a super special day, and treat yourself and others well!

@Marilynda1225 thank you! it is amazing what a little positive thinking can do to a girl like me! I have a book about thinking positively about myself on my Kindle I have been meaning to read. I plan on reading it as soon as I can. Joining the peer program was the best decision of my life. I hope your day was as good as mine was! Hope you wake up in the morning with a smile on your face!
