While the pop list is all over the place, there aren’t any real surprises in the world of country music. If you haven’t noticed this early in (this is the ninth day), when I say I like country music I mean COUNTRY music. Here’s today’s song.
Blanket on the Ground - Billie Jo Spears
Country music has such a reputation for songs about cheating. Here’s a rare twist: it’s the married couple that’s going to do a little naughtiness.
Bill Anderson (who’ll be along as a performer and songwriter later) said that when he did his song “Wild Week-End,” with five verses about “slippin’ out of town on a wild weekend,” the record company said “NO!!” Only after the punch line in last verse (“just get away on a wild weekend like I’m gonna do with my wife”) did their apprehension turn to delight.
That may have helped inspire this song about a married couple, or at least the wife, wanting to harken back to what they did when they were younger….like making love outside.
Billie Jo Spears (1938-2011) had another song in contention for the list, her 1969 hit “Mr. Walker, It’s All Over.” Next time I review the list that one might be included. But this one isn’t going anywhere.

Peak chart position: #1 (also charted #78 pop)
Today’s rock song: “Bridge Over Troubled Water”

I like this one. It was a hit over here. A bit of naughtiness going on, as you say, but not graphic. All done in the best possible taste. I was a teenager back then, but my mother wouldn’t have let me take a blanket out the house for no good reason.

@FourWalls Only problem for me is I don’t have a blanket now. I’d have to take a duvet and hope it was acceptable.

That’s why this works so well: they’re adults now and don’t have to ask permission.

Well, there’s Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer for Green Day, so it’s not always a giveaway.

This is one of the songs I have always really love when I was into a lot of country music. Enjoy it even today. It made me think of another song that was called Setting the Woods on Fire and if you do that you need a blanket on the ground

Don’t you have some cats to feed to Haitians? (Can you believe people believe that….)
