9/14/24 - Update On My Husband

Went to visit my husband yesterday and brought him some Pork Lo Mein; so a good part of the visit was watching him eat. When we got there they were just wheeling him back in from having a shower. He said he wanted to get into bed himself; but he had quite a bit of difficulty standing up and getting into bed. Not what he's been telling me. He was in good spirits. We didn't talk about him coming home. I have no idea what his real goal is. I think he wants to walk without a walker before he comes home. That could be months yet. He says his chest congestion is a bit less. Have not received the decision on the latest appeal yet. It was sent out about a week ago. Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts. Despite everything going on, it was nice to hear you say that he was in good spirits. That means that place is not sucking the life out of him like it could do to so many patients. I hope he continues to remain in good spirits. As always, the two of you remain in my prayers.

@LindaOHio Yes, I can understand how he hates being there, but it sounds like he is making the most of a bad situation.

Probably a good idea not to always mention going home - or not.

Can you afford to have him there for months? What if you need care sometime too?

God forbid if something happens to me. I can't even think about that.

Let me explain “sending out” in governmentese: they “issue it.” Then a few days later they print it. Then a few days later they put it in an envelope. Then a few days later they take it to the mailroom. Then a few days later it’s stamped and mailed. Then the post office gets it and sends it from Cleveland to your house via Seattle, Washington.

He may have been too relaxed and weakened by the shower to do as well as he hoped transferring to his bed.

It's possible he's happy there and has given hope of coming home, because he knows you can't take care of him like he needs.

@LindaOHio That doesn't mean he hasn't started to lose hope and feel he's better off there. He could literally come home anytime. He's not a prisioner. If you think about it, lesser of two evils. He'd love to be home, but knows he won't have the twenty-four hour help he feels he needs. A lot of his needs would fall on you.

@kaylachan Yes, and I also think he's really self conscious about using a walker or cane. He doesn't want to admit that he can't be as mobile as he was in February.

Such a shame. Has he always been too proud to admit when somethings wrong?

Most men I know are very stubborn especially when it comes to age and not having the same abilities they did as young men.

@rebelann I think he's self conscious about using a walker or cane. He's going to have to get over that feeling very soon.

I have a feeling you are going to have problems with getting your husband to come home. It seems he feels safer and surer where he is. I wish the best for you both and many blessings,

Glad he is in good spirits when you visited. Praying he gains strength enough to walk without a walker. If it were me, I would be walking with a walker to get home, then at home work on walking without having to depend on it.

Thank you. He was already planning to come home weeks ago until the COVID changed that. I don't know why he wants to walk without a walker or cane now.
