My cute niece turned one last September 8th. The plan supposedly was to celebrate it with us here in Manila (they lived in the province). But something happened and my BIL's wife decided to do it in a fastfood chain popular here Jollibee with 30 person invites. They already knew that we cannot go there with a two-day notice. Sadly, my BIL told us that there are only few who attended the party, around half of the invited. Then they all come in late. The party was supposed to start at 10:30am but the guests arrives almost 12noon. And those guests after eating just left without a word. That's the reason we gave her a little party here. We are just like 13 here but we enjoyed the party and games. That's my niece with her first haircut, of course by me.

I’m really glad the party you had for her with you guys went so well since that one ended up being a negative experience.

That is really wonderful that you stepped up and helped give her a memorable first birthday. She doesn't need to know about the other one if it wasn't successful, but the pictures and stories will make her so happy when she is older and realizes the significance of how she spent her first trip around the sun.

@rakski Just family and close friends and to be happy are the best things that we can look for when we choose who to invite to a gathering.

@Juliaacv that's true! The people invited by BIL's wife were family too (her side( but unfortunately they don't see the value of family

That is what I'm thinking. Her mother's side live there in the province and she always insist to do these things even at her baptism. Unfortunately, they are only after the food. We in the city much prefer a simpler celebration with just family and be happy

That's a bit sad that the party wasn't well attended. Your haircut suits your niece.

True, no presents and no goodbye. I think is rude and disrespectful
