I can't believe my computer had lasted this long. It's miracle it hasn't crashed since. My mom's laptop is much newer than mine but it got slower since she wasn't using it much. Now, it's just in my room gathering dust. The problem I have for the moment is the battery, i haven't bought a new one yet.
I have used laptop twice, the last one was an old one from my eldest brother. Third was the not used new one from mom. But these days I'm thinking of reverting back to desktop which has gone cheaper now than before.
It's not healthy to keep charging the laptop every time I use it.

I keep a close eye on both my desktop PC and laptop. I am lucky my friend who lives below me knows all about them and technology, As soon as anything seems out of place I get him to take a look at it,

Nice for you that there is someone whom you can run to when you need help especially in today's electronic devices and technology. We should always have such a friend where we can speak about ourselves as well as a troubleshooter who can be of great help in life.

Hello @RasmaSandra You are blessed to have some one who can fix your computer. My brother used to fix mine. But he's been busy a lot lately.

The laptop that I am currently using is my third one. I have had all the branded devices of reputed companies. I used to work a lot in the last decade. I'm sure your usage is lesser. Otherwise, any electronic device lasting that long seems a bit fancy to me - just my personal opinion, mate. And that's why I had to change my first laptop after around 3-4 years' of use. I didn't replace it nor returned in exchange for any money. I kept it though. I used it to hear songs and watch videos.
As far as keeping the laptop charging while using is concerned, I have heard various "rules" about that. Some say, it's good to keep it disconnected, as you said. Some say, it's ok. I don't know what take to take on it. But I'm happy for you to see that your device lasted so long.

@Letranknight2015 Hi there! Oh nice to know that. You have used your device sufficiently enough. I mean to say, do take a backup of your important files. And which laptop are you planning to buy? I'm curious to know.

I have a Lenovo Laptop which I bought in 2013 and is still working, albeit with a few repairs in between.
However, with 4 GB RAM, it lags very much in accessing many sites which are very heavy.
RAM upgrade is an option but I am more into planning for a new laptop.
Is yours a Lenovo one?

I think Lenovo used to make better ones earlier.
Heating is a big problem with them, especially their smaller ones.

Not many Laptop brands have good solutions for heating issues.
I am looking for one with lesser heating issues.

@jstory07 A laptop lasting 9-10 has become a norm or what? Your's too lasted quite a long time, without doubt. I think you might not be using heavy software program on it. Video editing software do need a lot of energy, in the sense that the wear and tear is faster usually.

@AmbiePam I was in your category for a long time... liking desktops more than laptops. But lately it's been the opposite. And you are right. Most people could be opposite. Now I've changed my category

I keep my laptop plugged in just like a desktop, unless I want to use it somewhere else. In that case, I'll unplug it and take it there and use it and then charge it again. Conteray to popular belief, it's not a bad thing to charge laptops, they are designed to be charged on a near-daily basis. They are portible and batteries are built with this in mind. It's good yours has lasted ten years. I used to use windows, and mine would barely make it a year before they would over heat and crash.
I now use mac and have used it for the past two years. Having a laptop was handy when I did all those staycations, and even more so when George was in the hospital. It allowed me to document what is going on and keep sane during George's hospitalization.

Hello @kaylachan To be honest a lot of new tech arrives every 5 years. Not sure which one still has the same quality as my laptop. Mine has fan under it that's why it somehow survive this long.

@Letranknight2015 Based on the screenshot, if that is your laptop, it's a Windows machine. While Apple has perfected the solid design in their air series all windows computers have fans in them. So, that's not anything new. And, new technology is released yearly, but like with the iPhone for example, unless there's a major design change you don't notice the technolognal advancments. For example, you could replace your laptop and get the same make, but the chip inside would be up-to-date, and supposedly perform better. But, unless you knew what to look for you'd never know.
