Have you eaten dandelions?

Are dandelions edible?

I had posted on weeds in my lawn and a few of you mentioned that the dandelions were actually edible. I was surprised, but a sime google search showed that they were indeed edible. The leaf, stem and the flowers can be used is salads, stir fried and eaten as is! I'm tempted to try it! Have you ever had dandelion?

I haven't eaten this before, but I guess it can be made as the traditional Chinese herbs.

@pitstop If you have more options, it's better to leave it alone since I don't really think it tastes well

I eat dandelion leaves every morning! But I buy them "farmed" from the store - never from the lawn because there are so many generations of pesticide on it I'm sure. I eat them raw - just wash and eat. But I used to chop and saute them to mix with scrambled eggs. It's a bit bitter, but I'm used to it now.

Sounds interesting I haven't sprayed any pesticide on my lawn - so may be worth trying.

@pitstop We don't use pesticide either, but we may not be able to say the same of the owners who lived here previously. Plus our neighbors yards are so close - who knows what is on any of our lawns. There was a time when everyone used pesticides - dandelions are unwanted weeds here.

Nope! Jungle Flame, yes! we always eat the nectar of Jungle flames in our school yards back in 80s and 90s Lol! And sometimes we use it to test if our crush - crush us back.. lol! it is a classic chance game we play, by pulling the petals of the Jungle flames while "he loves me , he loves me not" hehehe until all the petals was picked out and the answer get revealed. Kidding, but it is our past time every recess time and before we go home.

I'm not brave enough to try them as there are several different plants called dandelions and I'm not sure which ones are edible. Perhaps they all are but I don't know.

@pitstop When the flowers are in full bloom for a while the dandelions get bitter. Best to pick them before the flowers bloom.
