It's a bird it's a plane... No, it's just an unusual looking sea bird. My friend traveled all the way to Newfoundland (Canada), one of the places they breed, to take pictures of them.
Here are 5 interesting facts about their appearance, breeding, behavior and feeding habits:
*The Atlantic puffin is a sturdily built bird with a thick-set neck, large colorful beak, short wings and tail, and a face that appears "clown-like." They are actually nicknamed the "clown of the sea."
*Puffins breed in grassy burrows on islands in the North Atlantic. The female lays only one egg per year which hatches in about 40 days. Both parents take turns incubating the egg.
*When the chicks are fully grown, they fly to sea at night to not return for several years.
*The seabird's diet consists of zooplankton, small fish, and crabs, which it catches by diving underwater, using its wings for propulsion.
*Puffins are monogamous and form lifelong pairings returning to the same burrow each spring.
-I found the puffin to be one of the strangest looking birds I've ever seen. They look just like a stuffed toy. Have you come across any bird or animal that's as strange looking like the puffin? Do share your picks!
Hope you enjoyed the educational info...

Although somewhat similar in appearance they are not related. Penguins are found in the Southern Hemisphere, Puffins in the Northern. Puffins can fly, penguins are great swimmers but cannot.
But yes, I would agree that puffins have similar features to a penguin.

@dgobucks226 I like to see it in person. Despite being a unique one, I wanted to know more about it and its behavior.

@Shavkat Here are a few more puffin facts about their behavior.
MORE PUFFIN FACTS
-Puffins spend most of their time far from land in the colder ocean waters, only returning to the coast to breed.
-They have many predators. At sea they need to be on the watch for seals, gulls, and large fish. When on the coast it's foxes, weasels, cats, and dogs.

I agree, quite unique. My friend says they had no fear of them and came really close. Since humans are not a predator to them, they were not cautious. Kind of like a Toucan.

Yes, really different looking. I'm sure you have many strange looking animals in Australia on land and sea. I often watch a nature channel, and your country is featured a lot.

Thanks, I found them an interesting topic. And yes, they do bear a resemblance to a penguin.
Penguins are found in the Southern Hemisphere, Puffins in the Northern. Puffins can fly, penguins are great swimmers but cannot.
Both are definitely unique!

I love Puffins. Thank you for the facts. I think a Platypus is a very strange animal. So is an anteater. Have a good weekend.
