Now we come to one song that I think surprises no one with its inclusion. There are songs in this world that truly earn legendary status, and this is one. After all, it was the title of a book and a movie. One of the most iconic songs in country music history, and here it is. Coal Miner’s Daughter - Loretta Lynn This song is 54 years old, and it still gives me goosebumps. When I saw Loretta Lynn in concert and she sang this, all I could do was weep. Every word is true (and yes, people in eastern Kentucky pronounce it worshboard instead of washboard). The hills and hollers of that part of the world may need to be seen to be “appreciated.” Maybe this song has something to do with my study of coal mining history. It definitely has something to do with me being proud to be from the same state as this legend. Coal Miner’s Daughter Written by Loretta Lynn Recorded by Loretta Lynn From Coal Miner’s Daughter, 1970 Peak chart position: #1 (also charted #83 pop) Today’s rock song: “Drift Away” Not much left but the floors:

Love Ernest Tubb’s appearance in it, too. He was so old when that movie was made but he still looked like he did in the 60s (which means he looked “old” to me all my life ).

These country folk sure know how to write tear-jerkers don't they? I enjoyed the movie too. The one that gets me is "Ode to Billy Joe"..

I’m still amazed how many people think “Ode to Billy Joe” is a real story.

This sounds like an intro to a naughty joke: She was only the coal miner’s daughter, but……..

@FourWalls Have you watched the Carry On movies? Very British, but unfortunately not considered pc these days. Full of innuendos and double entendres. I loved them.

@Orson_Kart — I watched the two that the late Kenneth Cope was in (had a crush on him as a teenager when Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) played on rerun TV in the mid 70s).
