A new level of perversity.

A new sickness has befallen the world of popular entertainment, though it’s probably just a new version the an age old malaise. Channel 4 (British TV) is screening a programme called “Celebrity Sendoff”. The fact that the word celebrity is in the title raises alarm bells and indicates that the public is going to be offered something trite and puerile, and probably in very poor taste. And it will be peopled by characters I have never heard of who can’t make money by doing an honest day’s work. Any of them who have been famous have obviously been duped into believing their appearance on a new freak show will revive a wilting career. The ‘plot’ of the series is to have the families of the celebrities to plan the funeral of the celebrity who will then react to what their families have planned. Is that sick or what? Death and bereavement are such difficult experiences to deal with, so I don’t know what sort of warped minds have decided to turn them into a most undignified circus. However there are plenty of people who will do absolutely anything to get on TV no matter how tasteless and offensive the TV show may be. Am I the only person who finds the thought of such a show to be obscene, tasteless, moronic, perverse, offensive and degrading?

What are these people thinking? The producers/creators/whatever are obviously scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Wow, that is quite low. And it comes way too close to tempting fate.

It is obscene, tasteless, moronic, perverse, offensive and degrading but at least they didn't make it a competition and call it a war.
